'A Small Light’ on National Geographic: Who is Bep Voskuijl?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'A Small Light' is not so much about the victims of this atrocity, in the way that films like 'The Survivor' have fashioned themselves, as it is about the people who risked their lives because it was the right thing to do. The series is blatant in its condemnation of people who reap the benefits of prejudice and hatred, blindly focused on their own small joys and creature comforts. Beautifully shot by Phelan, Susanna Fogel, and Leslie Hope, with a slight sepia tone to ground the audience in the time period, the series will start in 1942, when the Frank family goes into hiding. Miep (Bel Powley) is tasked with getting Otto’s (Liev Schreiber) eldest daughter Margot (Ashley Brooke) through a Nazi checkpoint and into the secret annex above the office building where Miep and Otto work. Regardless, let's know a little more about who is Bep Voskuijl before the Nat Geo series premieres.

Who is Bep Voskuijl?
Elisabeth "Bep" Voskuijl was a resident of Amsterdam who helped conceal Anne Frank and her family from Nazi persecution during the occupation of the Netherlands. In the early versions of Het Achterhuis, known in English as 'The Diary of a Young Girl,' she was given the pseudonym "Elli Vossen". As per the novel, Bep was mainly in charge of practical matters: she brought milk and bread, provided course materials, and registered for a correspondence course in Latin under her own name. In reality, the course material was meant for the people in hiding and it was Margot who did the homework for the Latin course. Bep was lucky to have the support of her father, who worked as a warehouse manager in the company, and who was soon informed of the Secret Annex. It helped her to share the burden of the secret.
How did Bep Voskuijl die?
Bep Voskuijl died in Amsterdam on 6 May 1983, due to a traumatic aortic rupture when she was just 63 years old.
