In 'My Lady Jane' Episode 4, Jane finally assumes the role of Queen of England, marking a pivotal moment in the series. However, she faces numerous obstacles, including plots against her life, rival claims to the throne, and the ever-present threat of rebellion.

She discovers that Lord Dudley (Rob Brydon) has been imprisoned for Edward VI's murder. However, she refuses to believe in his guilt and embarks on a quest to uncover the true culprit.

Lord Seymour (Dominic Cooper) reveals that he knows a witness, a female cook, who may have crucial information to testify against Lord Dudley.

When Jane confronts the cook, she finds inconsistencies in her story and accuses her of lying. The cook tries to escape by transforming into a cat, but she is killed by the authorities. Jane then realizes that the cook is an Ethian, capable of shapeshifting.

Jane becomes suspicious of Lord Seymour because she notices that the cook becomes tense in his presence. She heads to Lord Seymour's room to gather evidence but is interrupted by his sudden arrival.

Jane pretends to innocently explore the room, but when Lord Seymour opens a locked compartment, she spots a black diary inside.

Recognizing the diary as potential evidence, Jane decides to steal it to uncover proof of Lord Seymour's involvement in the conspiracy.

However, stealing the diary proves challenging. To create a diversion and steal the diary, Jane decides to throw a lavish party, extending an invitation to everyone, including Lord Seymour.

While the party is in full swing, Jane's sister sneaks into Lord Seymour's room to steal the diary. The plan is risky, but Jane remains determined to uncover the truth.

Lord Guildford helps her by providing a gadget that serves as a key to interpreting the language. Together, they decipher the code and uncover shocking information: Princess Mary (Kate O'Flynn) is revealed to be the true culprit behind Edward VI's murder.

Jane realizes the extent of the conspiracy and the danger that Princess Mary poses to the kingdom.
