Just as the scene of Edward being shot happened to be the pivotal scene in the first episode, the second episode's pivotal scene features Manuel 'Vampiro' Contreras. In the run-up to this scene, we see Edward who was shot being picked and transported to the US. Having worn the bulletproof vest, Edward was not wounded by a bullet, but the impact seemed to have affected him enough to have his heart stop after he arrives at his residence in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Just before their meeting in Monterrey, Mexico, Edward had told Emma that if something were to go wrong at the meeting, he wanted her to promise that she wouldn't include Chris in the family business. Edward's son and Emma's brother, Chris has been restricted from being a part of discussions that are about their company, because Edward believes that Chris will follow his mother's suit. There is a possibility that Chris might contract a disease genetically which led to his mother's dementia. However, after his death, Emma lies to Chris and tells him that their father felt that it was time for Chris to join the business.

After their father's funeral, when Chris and Emma arrive home, the door is open and they find Stefano waiting for them. The sexist Italian brat is in the US to try and throw around his weight to get Emma and Chris to work according to his plan. He even threatens Emma that if she doesn't agree to his terms, which includes Stefano's men accompanying the cargo themselves, then he has no other way but to end her and her brother's life. Despite the looming threat Emma manages to get the word out to Stefano's grandfather Don Minu and she tells Stefano that his grandmother agreed to Emma's terms which stipulated that the shipment will be accompanied by the man in command of the business -- her brother Chris.

She tells Chris about the change in plans and the only thing he has to tell her is to not destroy his garden in his absence. He joins the captain on board in Mexico and the ship is in the middle of the ocean when Chris hears the sound of a chopper. He looks up to see men climb down a rope from the chopper and the first man punches Chris without saying a thing and a close up indicates that this man is Vampiro. From this point on, we see how Vampiro ended up on the ship from his perspective.

By now, of course, the narration technique seems to be a signature style of the show. We see how Vampiro has managed to loot from the site of raids, chases and splits it with his team of men. When his commander and others chase the Leyra brothers, Emma and her father, one of the cars meets with an accident. Leyra's lawyer and two of his guards are dead, and Vampiro steals the money bag that was on the lawyer's person. One of his men tells him that he supports his sergeant but wouldn't accept money that comes from narcos (drug dealers). This puts him on Vampiro's hit list, which is why when the time comes to out a snitch for leaking information to the Leyras, Vampiro frames this special forces soldier, kills him and makes an example out of it.

This is also how he gets added to the team that heads out to capture a huge consignment of drugs in a ship in the middle of the ocean. He had heard from his contact at Leyras that the drugs were being moved by sea through a shipping company and being part of the team allows him to control the situation. What he realizes also is the fact that the Special Forces captured none other than his contact so they have information not just about the ship, but also about the exact container that holds the drugs. When his commander is suiting up for the mission, Vampiro recruits men on his side to be on the team and that rounds out how he turns up on the ship.

This 360-degree view style of narrating the plot keeps us hooked to individual episodes.
