K-pop group Oh My Girl's YooA set to croon Korean OST for the Netflix animated musical 'Over the Moon'
There's big news for Oh My Girl fans: YooA is set to feature as the special artiste for an upcoming Netflix animated film dropping in fall. Dubbed 'Over the Moon', the 3D-animated musical is scheduled for a release on October 23 and is produced by Pearl Studio and animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks.
YooA will be singing the film's main theme song, titled 'Rocket to the Moon!'. According to Korea's newsgroup Korea Dispatch, the song by the 25-year-old artiste from the popular 7-member South Korean girl group will appear during the end credits of the film, which is a retelling to a classic Chinese myth. According to Koreaboo, 'Rocket To The Moon' will be released in various languages and YooA will croon the Korean one.
The synopsis for 'Over the Moon' on Netflix reads, "In this animated musical, a girl builds a rocket ship and blasts off, hoping to meet a mythical goddess." The lead character named Fei Fei will be voiced by Cathy Ang while the actress Phillipa Soo is set for the role of the moon goddess named Chang'e, according to IMDb. The other members of the cast include popular names such as John Cho (best known as Harold Lee in the 'Harold & Kumar' films), comedian-actor Ken Jeong (the 'Hangover' films), Sandra Oh ('Killing Eve', 'Grey's Anatomy') and many more.
Glen Keane is the director of the film. 'Over the Moon' will mark his very first project as a director as well as the feature directorial debut for the film's co-director John Kahrs. Keane is an American animator, author and illustrator who has worked a character animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios for feature films such as 'The Little Mermaid', 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Aladdin', 'Pocahontas', 'Tarzan' and 'Tangled'. In 1992, he received the Annie Award for character animation. Keane has also received the 2007 Winsor McCay Award for lifetime contribution to the field of animation and in 2013 was named a Disney Legend.
Kahrs is an American actor and animator who began his career at Blue Sky Studios in New York, where he worked as an animator between 1990 and 1997. Moving to Pixar later would see him working on films including 'A Bug's Life', 'The Incredibles', and 'Ratatouille'. After ten years at Pixar, he moved over to Disney, where he animated on 'Bolt', 'Wreck-It Ralph' and 'Frozen', and was an animation supervisor on 'Tangled'.
In 2017, Pearl Studio hired Audrey Wells to write the screenplay for 'Over the Moon'. The following year, Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film as Glen Keane was selected to direct it, but it was during this time that Audrey Wells sadly passed away, making this her final film to work on.
