'Yellowstone' season 3 might answer why Beth hates Jamie and it could be because of a failed pregnancy

Throughout season two, the siblings' relationship has gotten increasingly acidic. However, we cannot figure out the reason behind Beth's continued cruelty towards Jamie
UPDATED AUG 29, 2019

In 'Behind Us Only Grey', the previous episode of 'Yellowstone', we saw a wounded Beth (Kelly Reilly) face to face with Jamie (Wes Bentley) again. It doesn't look like the tension between the siblings is going to be resolved anytime soon, but what caused them in the first place?

Throughout season two, the siblings' relationship has gotten increasingly acidic. However, we cannot figure out the reason behind Beth's continued cruelty towards Jamie and her constant barrage of insults thrown his way to the point where she has also told him to kill himself.

One of the major questions that the makers of 'Yellowstone' have left unanswered since season one is the reason behind Beth's hatred for her brother Jamie. The two have never shared a loving relationship.

In the last episode, the tension escalated. After watching Rip (Cole Hauser) share a moment with her nephew Tate (whose life may be in grave danger in the upcoming episode), she meets Jamie in the shed. There she tells him that she cannot wait for him to find something he truly loves so she can then snatch it away from him. She won't let him be happy or even hopeful as long as she is alive.

We know that Beth values loyalty and selflessness – qualities that Jamie doesn't hold himself. "He's incapable of it, in her mind. That particular scene when he is full of his own demons, she says, 'You now see yourself the way I've always seen you',"  Kelly had said in one particular behind-the-scene.

Naturally, fans of the show have wondered why Beth remains hostile towards her brother. Many of these theories have one thing in common – their mother's death. It was revealed in season one that their mother Evelyn Dutton had fallen off a horse while riding with Kayce and Beth. She died when one of the horses fell on top of her and crushed her to death.

While this is the most common of all theories, there is a new one doing the rounds now. A lot of fans think the reason behind Beth's anger and hatred towards her brother has something to do with her pregnancy. She had an outburst after she saw Rip and Tate share a moment at the ranch. This has convinced fans that, at some point in time, Beth and Rip were actually expecting a baby of their own – until Jamie got in the way and changed the course of that story.

"I believe Beth hates Jamie so much because he did something to her and Rip's relationship when they were younger. She got way too emotional looking at Rip and Tate! I think she got pregnant young and something happened to the baby," said one fan. "Watching Beth watch Rip & Tate I'm having the feeling at one time Beth Dutton was pregnant with Rip's baby. She hadn't told him yet and Jamie caused her to lose the baby and her ability to have any more," said another fan.

The tension between the siblings is getting more and more complicated with every episode. After the episode wrapped up, the Twitter account teased that there is more to that story. "A lot of you are asking about their history. We can't say!! (Fear of the Duttons and all). But there IS more to the story. Bear with us on this one."

Meanwhile, in a clip released by Paramount Network, 'Yellowstone' characters give us an insight into what the next season will entail. Here is a little sneak peek. With new characters joining the cast, we expect the season to have a fresh beginning with new threats... and new allies.

'Yellowstone' airs on Wednesdays at 10 pm PT/ET.
