Netflix released Season four Volume one of 'Stranger Things' in the first week of June 2022. The story navigated through shifts and turns in ways that left many of us surprised. The events of the fourth season take place eight months after the end of the third season, as strange deaths tied to the Upside Down cause paranoia among Hawkins' residents.

However, fans of the popular show have begun to speculate whether Steve Harrington will die in Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2. In an interview, producer Ross Duffer told Netflix Geeked about how he wanted Steve to die in the finale of season one. Some fans picked up on Ross' statement and speculated that the character’s death might have been pushed later, supposedly to Volume two of Season 4.

'Stranger Things' season 4 could be connected to the Chernobyl nuclear tragedy, claims outrageous fan theory

We know the infamous thing 'Stranger Things' is known for is killing its characters when we least expect it. And it's quite obvious that this time too, the series may have one of its protagonists chopped off. Volume one of the fourth season shows Steve working at a video rental store with Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke). Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) uses the computers and phones at the store to look for clues to find Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) and hopefully clear his name.

Both Max and Steve had pretty close calls with various Upside Down-y happenings in Volume One, and while Max's fate might still be up in the air, fans are convinced that Steve is the one that's going to get killed off at the end of Volume Two. Steve's story arc throughout the entire show has seen him grow from a popular teenager who wouldn't be seen dead with those nerdy kids, to a True American Hero. His character has seen remarkable growth.

Some speculations around why Steve Harrington could possibly be killed is, that he was almost eaten alive by those Demobats in the recent season. Fans are worried about the lasting effects that could have on him. Will he be able to survive that? Another aspect being Steve is diving headfirst into lakes to investigate gates to the Upside Down, for Christ's sake. His character is as powerful as it could be. Fans also believe Steve could still have feelings for Nancy and he wouldn't hesitate to give his life to save hers. It’s suspicious that Steve has been bitten, so even if he escapes to Hawkins, it’s unclear if he would be healthy. But Vecna is keeping him and Nancy at the end of volume one, so it’s possible that Steve does something heroic again to save her but doesn’t survive.

In an interview with Netflix Geeked Matt Duffer said, "Cause there is that scene where, really, which is the beginning of his turn,” “Which is when he comes back in the end, and he comes and ends up fighting the Demogorgon with Jonathan and Nancy, and originally that was gonna be Jonathan’s dad, Lonnie.”
