Will President-elect Joe Biden tear down Trump's border wall? Internet says it will cause 'humanitarian crisis'

Donald Trump's projected loss in the controversial 2020 elections has jeopardized the future of the wall he'd promised to build along the US-Mexico border to stop the flow of illegal immigration as part of his presidential campaign in 2016. Multiple rallies on his campaign trail heard a resounding "build the wall" as Trump secured his position at the White House. Work on the wall ceased as Trump faced acute non-compliance from Congress. He also faced strong opposition from the courts over the funding to build the wall. 

The ordered construction work gained momentum this year. While January 2020 saw just 100 miles of the wall been built, according to reports, there was a sizeable increase as 400 miles were built by October. By the end of the year, it was expected that 450 miles of wall will have been built and funding to do so is in place for further construction. 

Democrats fought Trump's decision to build the wall throughout with Joe Biden pledging that he'd stop its construction in the past. Now that he's projected to occupy the White House as President starting January 2021, the question is will he tear down the wall that's already built. His campaign website mentioned, "Trump has waged an unrelenting assault on our values and our history as a nation of immigrants. His obsession with building a wall does nothing to address security challenges while costing taxpayers billions of dollars. Most contraband comes in through our legal ports of entry," the statement continued. 

Currently, it is anticipated that the work on the wall will proceed as usual until the end of this year. However, the future of the wall and its completion is up in the air, now that Biden's administration is expected to take over in January 2021. While it's anticipated that Biden might put a stop to the construction next year, the questions is if he'll also order the parts that have already been built to be torn down. While Biden's campaign and the President-elect himself have strongly condemned the structure, the President-elect has said that he wouldn't tear down the parts that Donald Trump built.

In June, Biden said: “There will not be another foot of wall constructed under my administration,” in an interview during the virtual annual conference of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists." He added: “I’m gonna make sure that we have border protection, but it’s going to be based on making sure that we use high-tech capacity to deal with it and at the ports of entry — that's where all the bad stuff is happening.”

Americans have taken to Twitter after Biden's projected win was announced, to weigh in on the border crisis. "Biden will quickly overturn Trump’s executive orders on immigration, reinstating “catch and release”. Within months, America will face a new massive illegal immigration crisis, with hordes of caravans crossing the border," wrote a user. "Y’all have no idea what a Biden Presidency will Bring. Antifa emboldened, Progressives Emboldened. Crisis at the border. Jobs evaporated. Covid lockdown until 2022. Stock Market crash. Housing Market Crash. Wars and that’s just the start," wrote another.

"Biden's election will cause a humanitarian crisis at the border. The gates will be thrown open and our country will be flooded by people who will exploit our immigration system for their own gain," read another tweet. "First things Biden, Harris will do; Tear down the WALL and let in crime. Return to allowing China... own the USA. Accept MORE bribes. Start a war and profit by insider trading..." tweeted another. "Yeah, tear down the wall and tear down this country Mr. Biden! we aspire for mediocrity. we want to be like China, Venezuela, Cuba, Somalia, Iran, and all the other lands of dreams! Let everyone in, especially those who hate America. Let's do this! Let's make @Ilhan proud!" wrote another.
