Set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world, Prime Video's 'Fallout' Season 3 will take place in a completely new location. Adapted from the popular video game series of the same name, the show's first season was set in Los Angeles. Following the explosive Season 2 finale, new reports suggest that Season 3 will explore a new location, and we now know which one.

'Fallout' Season 3 is officially heading to Colorado, marking a major expansion of the franchise's world. During a special screening of the Season 2 finale, showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet and executive producer Jonathan Nolan shared their desire to recapture the thrill of exploring an entirely new setting in the 'Fallout' universe, as per Yahoo Entertainment. To add more, a past-timeline scene subtly foreshadows 'Fallout' Season 3's setting when The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) and his wife Barb (Frances Turner) joke that fleeing to Colorado would be far enough, hinting at the franchise's next location.

The series removes any doubt about Colorado's importance by directly confirming it in the Season 2 finale when The Ghoul reaches the Vault-Tec management vault in New Vegas. The gunslinger is seen expecting to find his wife, Barb, and daughter, Janey Howard (Teagan Meredith), preserved in cryogenic chambers. Instead, he discovers the pods are empty. In their place is a postcard Barb left behind that reads "Greetings from Colorado," with a handwritten note on the back saying, "Colorado was a good idea." The final moments of Cooper's storyline show him heading east, strongly signaling that Colorado will be a key destination in the future of the 'Fallout' series.

Notably, the series has long hinted that Colorado could be significant, possibly even a base for the Enclave. Moreover, even before Season 1 aired, the show teased Colorado's importance in 'Fallout,' as a special live report from Galaxy News, stating, "Now, Vault-Tec Vault living is living the dream and it's the only way to safety, unless you're the president of the United States or something like that and you have a mountain in Colorado to go under and direct the events of the world. Not many of us are that; there's only one of those… and his various and sundry advisors."

While Colorado is a key destination, 'Fallout' Season 3 could feature multiple new locations, with The Ghoul's journey across the Wasteland including several dangerous stops before he ever reaches Colorado. In addition, Amazon renewed the series for Season 3 back in May 2025, before Season 2 even finished airing, as per Polygon. The show also appears to have long-term plans, with actor Aaron Moten revealing he was pitched a five to six-season story arc for his character Maximus.
