Will Blackpink's next album be its last? Fans hope group leaves YG Entertainment

Blinks are infuriated with YG Entertainment so much so that they hope the girl group leaves the label following their next comeback

The four-member girl group Blackpink made its debut in August of 2016 under the label YG Entertainment and the girl group will soon be celebrating its sixth anniversary in the next two months. But it seems like Blinks (fans of Blackpink) have started giving up on waiting for the girl group and finally wish for them to leave YG Entertainment altogether. All K-pop groups reach a phase in their careers where the future of the group is decided by the decisions made by the members in the seventh and final years of their contracts.

Over the last few years, many groups have gone in various directions to avoid the 7-year curse. As most K-pop contracts for groups and bands often start with a seven years period, the 7-year-curse is one that is very prevalent. With YG Entertainment keeping Blackpink on a hiatus for the last 20 months, fans weigh in on what the girls should do in the near future when it comes to the maturing of their contracts.

Will Blackpink disband, renew or pull a GOT7?  

Once a Blackpink's contract with its label matures, the members can decide on a few different things. Members can either renew their contracts for seven or fewer years and continue the group or choose to terminate their contracts and disband. The other, recently common options include some members who are not happy with the label leaving it but still continuing as part of the group like in the case of 2PM and more groups. More recently, GOT7 has popularized the trend of all members staying together as a group but signing on with a different label for their group releases. While these alternatives are rather popular, they can be very taxing on K-pop idols.

With the way things are panning out for Blackpink career-wise, fans of the girl group wish that Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose do something that the members of JYP Entertainment's GOT7 did back in 2020. One fan said, "I want Blackpink to leave yg and joined other entertainment." One more fan said, "They’ll probably be like other groups in which the members leave the company but they can still promote as BLACKPINK. Not sure how that’ll work since YG gives them one comeback every 3-4 years so we’ll have to wait probably every 6-10 years." One user said, "I’m not even a fan of black pink but I know that they have to leave YG if they want to keep there music career."

'Blackpink leave YG. They are never going to change' 

Fans are sharing their opinions about YG Entertainment trying to sabotage the girl group as well as the four members' careers with their mismanagement. One fan said, "Yall can't just sit here pushing the idea of "BP are gaining fans during their hiatus" nah, they lost alot of fans too, some turned to other groups, some left kpop..etc, at the same time groups with regular music are gaining more and more, things are getting nasty, wake up." Another fan said, "If blackpink goes on tour before js1, i’m 100% sure jisoo will leave yg after the 7 year contract. I know bp has been mistreated a lot, but if they do this to her, if they dare do this to jisoo on bp’s next world tour then they’re surely tryna sabotage her."

One fan said, "Another day of yg wasting jennie's talent and time and just locking her up in the dungeon." One fan asked, "Would there be any way that lisa can stay w blackpink but leave yg?" One more fan said, "F**k you @ygent_official , I f**kin hate this company so much. Hope they leave YG and find a better company. My life is a downward spiral I need a BP comeback." One fan said, "I really hope that, when time comes, blackpink don’t renew their contract with YG." One fan said, "Disbandment is the only option that will let us sleep well. i don't want them to stay at f**king YG even if they don't make music or do anything after the contract end i don't want them to be cash cow for YG for garage modeling, brand ambassador bulls**t for their whole life."

Another fan said, "I understand, we're all exhausted because of how they treat blackpink and you're very right on this. They shouldn't renew contract with yg or the cycle will just keep going." One fan hoped, "I hope the pinks know that without them yg would literally go bankrupt when they renew their contracts so they can get the most out of it." One fan responded, "YG is never going to change, the idea is that Blackpink does not renew and take the group's brand with them to another company that does provide them with those rights and guarantees as artists."
