WWE apologizes for WrestleMania promo after fans 'shocked' over insensitive video

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Leading wrestling entertainment company, WWE was recently slammed by the fans and the Auschwitz Memorial for using an image of the epicenter of the gruesome Holocaust that killed over a million Jews.

The image was used in a promotional video for WrestleMania. The clip that was revealed at WrestleMania 39 on April 2, was supposed to be a promo for the awaited fight between Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik Mysterio, showing the latter as a prisoner escorted to the SoFi stadium by the police. Dominik was arrested for beating up his father on Christmas. Auschwitz Memorial was not delighted by this disrespect as they slammed the wrestling company for its actions.

Why did WWE have to apologize?

WWE, on the night of WrestleMania 39, showcased a preview of one of their most sought-after matches between Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik Mysterio. In the video they included an image of the infamous Auschwitz death camp, thereby using it as a commodity. Fans immediately took to social media, pointing out the horrible mistake. WWE was quick to respond as they said, “We had no knowledge of what was depicted. As soon as we learned, it was removed immediately. We apologize for this error."

The Auschwitz Memorial took to Twitter to condemn the act. "The fact that Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call ‘an editing mistake’. Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz," the museum tweeted.

Surprised and disgusted, a fan tweeted, "This is so shocking." Another fan said, "For it to be an "editing mistake" it had to be there available to be used in the first place. So someone deliberately thought this was a good idea."
