‘Grey's Anatomy’ Season 22 Episode 17 trailer teases multiple major deaths and fans are panicking
'Grey's Anatomy' is in for more high-stakes drama as the latest medical crisis hits home for the staff of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. ABC's long-running medical drama series has featured some shocking deaths during its decades-long stint on the network. George O'Malley (T. R. Knight), Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) all met with tragic ends in the series, leaving fans devastated. Season 22 of 'Grey's Anatomy' premiered on October 9, 2025, with the series airing its latest episode on April 2. It is currently on a month-long hiatus and will return on April 30 with episode 17 titled 'Through the Fire.' The upcoming episode will also serve as the penultimate episode of Season 22 before the finale airs on May 7.
Fans got a taste of the episode from the latest trailer, which shows Nick Marsh (Robert Scott Speedman), Maya DeLuca-Bishop (Danielle Savre), and Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) in life-threatening situations. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) announces "all hands on deck" after learning that the Royer Bridge has collapsed, and the staff starts preparing to treat the victims. Dr. Theodora Grace ‘Teddy’ Altman's (Kim Raver) worst fears come true when she is heard saying, "Owen takes that bridge to work." The next shot depicts Hunt submerged under water in his car, unconscious and seemingly in a critical condition. Moreover, Meredith's love interest, Marsh, was also severely injured when the bridge collapsed and is seen on a stretcher.
Meredith personally requests Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) to save his life amidst the crisis. Furthermore, the firefighter Bishop from 'Grey's Anatomy's spin-off series, 'Station 19,' is also rushed to the hospital with severe injuries she received on duty. Since McKidd and Raver announced their exit from 'Grey's Anatomy' at the end of Season 22, fans have been wondering whether the story arcs of Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman will end on a happy note or a tragic one. McKidd will be stepping out of his medical scrubs after 20 years, as he joined the cast of 'Grey's Anatomy' in Season 5 in 2008.
On the other hand, Raver was a series regular from Seasons 6 to 8, returned in a recurring role in Season 14, and has been a main cast member since Season 15. Owen Hunt and Teddy, or 'Towen,' have been in an on-again-off-again dynamic for years that saw them navigating trust issues, infidelity, an open marriage, and divorce. They finally got their act together and reconciled in episode 13, which aired on March 12. However, their happily-ever-after seems to be in danger if Hunt does not survive the accident. Fans may have to brace themselves for another emotional send-off, or they may get to witness Hunt recovering from his injuries and set off into the sunset with Teddy. We will get all the answers when Grey's Anatomy returns on April 30 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
