Who is Veronica Valencia Hughes?

Veronica Valencia, born on September 11, 1985, is a talented designer hailing from Los Angeles, California. Growing up, Veronica had the support of her two siblings, David Aaron Valencia and Lizzy Valencia. Her brother, David, delved into the tech industry, founding Overly Social and Mintworld. Prior to her ventures in home redesign, Veronica showcased her creative prowess as a production designer for television. With bases in both Los Angeles and New York, she played a pivotal role as the production designer and creative director of the MLB Fan Cave in New York City back in 2011.

Her early career involved working behind the scenes on over 500 home makeover shows across various networks, including OWN, Fox, and NBC. Notably, from 2008 to 2012, Veronica contributed her talents to the beloved home renovation show, ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.' Alongside fellow designers from the series, she co-founded Go Team Ghana, an initiative aimed at constructing a recreation center for Ghanaian children. In 2012, Veronica briefly joined NBCUniversal Media, where she took on the role of production designer for 'American Dream Builder.' However, her passion for design led her to establish her own design content company. In 2013, she co-founded Design Hunters with her husband, Kris Hughes. The company specializes in creating content and spaces for editorial, broadcasting, and commercial purposes. Over time, their design team expanded to include renovation projects as well. Leveraging her extensive experience in creative design and home makeover shows, Veronica emerged as a skilled home renovation expert in her own right. She curated a window treatments collection for Select Blinds and developed her own line of specialty lighting and wall decor. Her modern and culturally-inspired interior aesthetics gained recognition, and she was featured in renowned publications such as Domaine Home, The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Style Me Pretty, Green Wedding Shoes, and Lucky Magazine. Veronica Valencia's journey in the world of design was driven by a desire to represent her culture authentically. Growing up and working on various design shows, she felt a lack of representation for designers who shared her cultural background. This year, Hispanic Heritage Month held particular significance for Veronica, as she seized the opportunity to become that culturally reflective designer on television. Through HGTV's 'Revealed,' she draws inspiration from her own heritage and the ancestral roots of her clients to rebuild and transform their homes. Since 2012, Veronica has been in a loving partnership with Kristopher Hughes, whom she met while working on a design show. Their shared passion for design led them to become business partners with Design Hunters. Together, they are the proud parents of two children, their son Hunter Hughes (born on October 30, 2018), and their daughter River Beaux Hughes (born on September 2, 2021).

How did Veronica Valencia Hughes become the host of HGTV's 'Revealed'?

Veronica's journey with HGTV began in 2019 when she was entrusted with leading the design team for the revival of the beloved show 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.' Reflecting on her experience, she shared in an interview with HGTV, "Several HGTV network executives saw how I could perform and asked me to work on some of their other shows." This recognition of her talent and dedication opened doors for her to contribute her skills to various HGTV projects. However, it was during the challenging times of the pandemic that Veronica's self-assurance blossomed, propelling her to take a leap of faith. With newfound confidence, she reached out to one of the network executives and mustered the courage to propose the idea of having her own show. In her own words, she revealed, "I called up one of the executives to see if he would give me a shot at my own show." This bold move demonstrated Veronica's determination and ambition to bring her unique vision to life and further showcase her talent as a designer.
