The 36-year-old, Ohio born actor was raised in the strict religious family of Grimes to father Randy Grimes and Angie Barker; his father worked at the Open Bible Christian Church as a Pentecostal pastor. He spent his childhood at church camps in devotion to God, however he later realized that his true calling was not the congregation but the stage and quoted, “I’m not really a fan of organized religion”. His parents supported him in his dreams despite not being financially well. They mortgaged their home to send him to a prestigious American drama school to learn the nuances of acting.

The actor who shot to fame with the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise is a proud alumni of American Academy of Dramatic Arts (Class 2004). In an interview given to The Glass magazine, he mentioned, “If it’s something I care about, there is no end to how much I will work at it. If I don’t care about it, good luck getting me to do anything. I wish this were different, I’d probably be richer or something, but I guess I don’t really care about that.” The actor has mostly featured in crime, adventure and thriller shows and movies. When asked about what one can find in his DVD library, he said, “Documentaries. Stand Up specials. Portlandia. I go through phases, and sometimes I consume a lot of films but sometimes I want to see what real people are doing, or numb out and laugh.”
