Who is Hassan Taj? The Acolyte's cute standout character wins hearts
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' Episode 6 aired on Disney+ on July 2, 2024, and while there is an excitingly intense story going on, the addition of an adorable character has enhanced the 'Star Wars' show considerably. The character of Bazil played by Hassan Taj joined the series in Episode 4 and has soon become a fan-favorite.
Since its debut on streaming platforms, 'The Acolyte' has sparked controversy, polarizing viewers due to perceived plot holes, runtime concerns, inconsistencies with 'Star Wars' canon, forced representation, and many other issues.
But Bazil's character seems to be the only thing that has unanimously been praised and adored by fans worldwide.
Who is Bazil in 'The Acolyte'?
Bazil is a Tynnan tracker who is naturally sensitive with his nose and helps the Jedis track Mae (Amandla Stenberg) down when she is in Khofar in search of Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo). Bazil belongs to the planet of Tyanna and is the second Tynnan to be featured after being included in 'Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel audiobook'.
Bazil plays an important role in the narrative of the series as he takes the Jedi to where Kelnacca is using a hypersensitive nose that helps him follow Mae. At the end of Episode 5, he also picks up the Pip after Qimir (Manny Jacinto) kills the umber moths.
In Episode 6, he takes the fight to Mae who is impersonating her sister Osha around Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and in a way, he saves the life of Master Sol after helping him identify Mae.
In the coming episodes, he might play a very important role as Master Sol tries to search for Osha and his highly sensitive nose can come in handy to locate her on the unknown planet.
Unfortunately, though, the only person who could understand him Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) was killed at the hands of Qimir and he will have a hard time expressing himself in the coming episodes.
Hassan Taj's connection with the 'Star Wars' universe
Hassan Taj has been associated with the 'Star Wars' universe for a long time. In 'The Acolyte', he plays Bazil but he has worked on many different aspects of the universe in other films too.
He was the creature and droid puppeteer for 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'. He performed the same duty in 'Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker' that came out in 2019. He also played the role of R2-D2 in the film.
Apart from the 'Star Wars' universe, he was also a part of the popular TV series '3 Body Problem' as a Chimp performer.
