Who are the 18 people charged with Donald Trump? Georgia DA Fani Willis sets deadline for former POTUS's surrender

The charges mark the fourth major indictment against Donald Trump

ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Former President Donald Trump and 18 of his aides were charged by a grand jury in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, August 14, on charges related to their alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. 

According to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, the indictment alleges "violations of Georgia law arising from a criminal conspiracy to overturn the results of the election in this state."

According to the district attorney, the defendants must surrender by Friday, August 25, at noon, or an arrest warrant will be issued.

Trump, 77, has now been charged with RICO, or Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations, a crime commonly used to punish mafia officials, cartel leaders, and gangland lords.

His additional charges include perjury, conspiracy to commit forgeries in the first degree, solicitation of oath breach by a public official, and a slew of other allegations.

According to the Daily Mail, if convicted on all charges, he faces 71 years in jail, and unlike federal charges, state charges cannot be pardoned by a president, Daily Mail reports. 

He was charged along with eighteen of his associates, including Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Mark Meadows, Ken Cheseboro, Jeffrey Clark, Jenna Ellis, Ray Smith III, Robert Cheeley, Michael Roman, David Shafer, Shawn Still, Stephen Lee, Harrison Floyd, Trevian Kutti, Sidney Powell, Cathleen Latham, Scott Hall, and Misty Hampton, reports Daily Beast

What is Rudy Giuliani charged with?

The 79-year-old Giuliani, who made his name by using RICO to prosecute organized crime, was indicted on a number of criminal charges, including a violation of Georgia’s RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), solicitation of violation of oath by public officer, false statements and writings, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, and conspiracy to commit filing false documents.

Giuliani spearheaded the Manhattan US attorney's office in the 1980s before going on to serve as the 107th Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001.

He previously served as the United States Associate Attorney General from 1981 to 1983 and the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1983 to 1989.

In April 2018, Giuliani joined Trump's personal legal team. He had a significant role in several attempts to rig the Georgia election, disseminating bogus rumors of voter fraud and asserting that voting equipment had been tampered with to favor Democrats, according to HuffPost.

What is Mark Meadows charged with?

Meadows, a former North Carolina congressman and Trump's former chief of staff has been charged with racketeering and solicitation of breach of oath of a public officer, according to the indictment, for his participation in efforts to reverse the 2020 election outcome.

This is the first time Meadows has been indicted in connection with his work with Trump. According to Willis, Meadows had previously admitted that on December 21, 2020, he attended a White House meeting with Trump, members of Congress and others to discuss allegations of voter fraud in the state.

Meadows served as the 29th White House chief of staff from 2020 to 2021. He additionally held the position of the US representative for North Carolina's 11th congressional district from 2013 to 2020.

What is John Eastman charged with?

Ex-Chapman Law dean John Eastman, the architect of a plan to keep Trump in office, was indicted on 9 counts including, a violation of Georgia’s RICO Act, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, and conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer.

He also faces charges of conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, conspiracy to commit filing false documents, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, and filing false documents, according to Orange County Register.

He is the founding director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence, a public interest law firm affiliated with the Claremont Institute. Eastman has received widespread attention for his role as an attorney to Trump.



 

What is Sidney Powell charged with?

A lawyer and staunch Trump ally, Sidney Powell is currently facing seven charges including, racketeering, two counts of conspiracy to commit election fraud, conspiracy to commit computer theft, conspiracy to commit computer trespass, conspiracy to defraud the state, and conspiracy to commit computer invasion of privacy.

Powell is an American attorney, former federal prosecutor, and conspiracy theorist. Powell began her career as an assistant United States attorney in the Western District of Texas.

Prosecutors stated that she was part of a group that met at the South Carolina home of conservative attorney Lin Wood in November 2020 “for the purpose of exploring options to influence the results of the November 2020 elections in Georgia and elsewhere.”

What is Jeffrey Clark charged with?

Unlike other defendants, Clark is facing only charges including Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, and criminal attempt to commit false statements and writings

Clark was the assistant attorney general for the environment and natural resources division under Trump—and a key player in the scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election.



 

What is Jenna Ellis charged with

Ellis has also been indicted on charges of Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, and criminal attempt to commit false statements and writings

After witnessing her TV appearances, Trump first recruited attorney Jenna Ellis. In 2020, she received a swift promotion to senior legal adviser and was added to the group in charge of challenging Trump's victory.

While appearing on television, she would frequently describe herself as a "constitutional law attorney" despite the fact that she had no training or experience in the field.

What is Kenneth Chesebro charged with?

Former Trump campaign attorney Chesebro has been charged with Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, and conspiracy to commit filing false documents.

The attorney appears to have played a critical role in the former president’s attempts to remain in power and is believed to be one of the unindicted co-conspirators in Trump’s DC case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

What is Ray Stallings Smith charged with?

In Monday’s indictment, Smith was hit with counts of Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, false statements and writings, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, and conspiracy to commit filing false documents.

Smith is a Georgia attorney hired by both L Lin Wood and the Trump campaign to litigate their attempts to block the certification of the state’s final vote count.



 

What is Robert Cheeley charged with?

After Smith, Cheeley is the second Georgian lawyer, who is facing charges for pushing Trump's fraud allegations.

For his alleged role, he has been charged with Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, conspiracy to commit filing false documents, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer and false statements and writings.

What is Michael Roman charged with?

Roman is a Philadelphia GOP campaign operative, who was employed as director of Election Day operations for Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Roman is said to have organized the seven slates of fictitious Trump electors, according to information found by the congressional committee's investigation on January 6, according to Daily Beast.

Currently, he is charged with five counts of Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, and conspiracy to commit filing false documents.

What is David Shafer charged with?

Shafer, the chairman of the Georgia GOP and a former long-serving lawmaker for the state, assisted in coordinating the activities of the Trump campaign, national GOP figures, and low-level state and local actors.

The grand jury slapped him with the following charges Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, impersonating a public officer, false statements and writings, criminal attempt to commit filing false documents, and forgery in the first degree.



 

What is Shawn Thresher charged with?

For pretending to have a power he had no right to, Still is facing charges of violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, impersonating a public officer, forgery in the first degree, false statements and writings, and criminal attempt to commit false statements and writings.

Still was a state GOP operative who was elected last year to represent the suburbs north of Atlanta. In 2020, when the incumbent president lost Georgia, Still promised to act as one of Trump's fictitious electors.

What is Stephen Lee charged with?

Lee is the Pastor of Preaching & Vision at The North Church in Mounds View, Minnesota, where he lives with his wife, Stephanie, and their five children.

In the midst of the post-election commotion, Lee allegedly went to the residence of a Fulton County election worker to try to provide her "protection"; however, he allegedly did so with the intention of persuading her to testify falsely about her and her coworkers' involvement in fraudulent conduct surrounding the election.

The indictment recounts that he found her incommunicative, which he reportedly blamed on him being a white man.

He has been hit with charges of Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, criminal attempt to commit influencing witnesses, conspiracy to commit solicitation of false statements and writings, and influencing witnesses.

What is Harrison Floyd charged with?

The grand jury indicted Floyd on charges including Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, conspiracy to commit solicitation of false statements and writings, and influencing witnesses.

Floyd, the executive director of Black Voices for Trump and a brief candidate for the House in the Atlanta region, was the stand-in Lee used in the alleged effort to intimidate the Fulton County election worker.

Floyd made multiple failed attempts to contact her by phone, before calling in a substitute of his own.

What is Trevian Kutti charged with?

Kutti is a former publicist for Kanye West and R Kelly, who switched from promoting celebrities to supporting Trump's Big Lie.

For allegedly assisting Lee and Floyd in influencing an election worker, Kutti has been charged with Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, conspiracy to commit solicitation of false statements and Writings, and influencing witnesses.



 

What is Cathleen Latham charged with?

Latham has been indicted on charges of Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, impersonating a public officer, forgery in the first degree, false statements and writings, criminal attempt to commit filing false documents, conspiracy to commit election fraud, conspiracy to commit computer theft, conspiracy to commit computer trespass, conspiracy to commit computer invasion of privacy, and conspiracy to defraud the state.

The GOP chairwoman from Coffee County, Georgia, spearheaded the effort to get Trump-aligned election truthers illegal access to a local election computer system. She also participated in the sham electors' plot.

What is Scott Hall charged with?

Hall, an Atlanta bail bondsman, was a member of the group of online investigators working with Shafer and Latham.

The grand jury has charged him with violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, criminal attempt to commit filing false documents, conspiracy to commit election fraud, conspiracy to commit computer theft, conspiracy to commit computer trespass, conspiracy to commit computer invasion of privacy, and conspiracy to defraud the state.

What is Misty Hampton charged with?

Hampton, a former elections official for Coffee County, helped the same scheme to gain access to local voting machines.

She had previously made a viral video promoting the fallacy that voting machines built by the Dominion might sway citizens' votes.

The charges against Hampton include Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, criminal attempt to commit filing false documents, conspiracy to commit election fraud, conspiracy to commit computer theft, conspiracy to commit computer trespass, conspiracy to commit computer invasion of privacy, and conspiracy to defraud the state.
