'The Secret Agent' was one of the films that made a splash at the 98th Academy Award nominations on Thursday. Starring 'Narcos' star Wagner Moura, the film earned four nominations, including Best Picture and Actor in a Leading Role for Moura. The category for best lead will see him take on the likes of major Hollywood names in Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Michael B. Jordan. The film will face stiff competition from the likes of 'Bugonia', 'F1', 'Frankenstein', 'Hamnet', 'Marty Supreme', 'One Battle After Another', 'The Secret Agent', 'Sentimental Value', 'Sinners', and 'Train Dreams.'

With the film garnering the buzz, the focus has since been on where to watch the film. Unfortunately, there is no streaming network carrying the film at the time of writing. Elle reported that the film might eventually stream on Hulu and Disney+, considering the existing deal between Neon and the streamers.

Per Rotten Tomatoes, the official synopsis reads, "Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology expert in his early 40s, is on the run. Hoping to reunite with his son, he travels to Recife during Carnival but soon realizes that the city is not the haven he was expecting. Winner of Best Director and Best Actor in Cannes." Along with Moura, the movie also stars Carlos Francisco, Tânia Maria, Robério Diógenes, Alice Carvalho, Gabriel Leone, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Hermila Guedes, Isabél Zuaa, and Udo Kier.

Earlier, Moura was elated upon receiving his Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama earlier this month. "The Secret Agent is a film about memory, or the lack of memory. And generational trauma,” he said while accepting his award. "I think that if trauma can be passed along generations, values can too."

In a recent interview with Deadline, Moura was candid about 'The Secret Agent'. "This film takes place in the seventies, and I have three sons, for example. And it's really something today to teach them what it is to be a man and how to be. Just behave with empathy and integrity and stick with your values when things are not going well. When everybody else, including the government, especially the government, or everybody around you, is saying the opposite of what you believe, how do you stick with what you think is right?.

The 2026 Oscars are scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with Conan O'Brien returning as host. It will air live on ABC.
