And just like that, it's time for 'Heated Rivalry' Season 1 finale. Titled 'The Cottage', the hit HBO Max show will release the day after Christmas. There's enough to unpack ahead of the new season, and fans have been eager to catch a dramatic finale. In other good news, there is an official season 2 in the works.

To start with, 'Heated Rivalry' will be available to stream at midnight EST on Friday, December 26. Per the official synopsis, the sixth chapter will see "Shane and Ilya get away from the spotlight for a rare moment of freedom. But when the outside world intrudes, they have to face some tough decisions that could change everything about their future and what it means to build a life together."

As far as comparison to the source material goes, the season finale will closely follow Rachel Reid’s novel with one change. "I can only think of one difference in it, and I don’t think it matters at all,” Connor Storrie told Decider. "I think it’s very, very true to the book. That’s my favorite episode, personally. That’s my favorite part of the entire thing."

Showrunner Jacob Tierney weighed in on the finale. According to Cosmopolitan, "We finished shooting the show with Episode 6, and we finished at the cottage. There’s a kind of sentimental memory with it. We’d all gotten very close. We’d worked very hard, and to end in this wonderful, small, pared-down, intimate setting was special."

Earlier, Tierney was elated when speaking about the rousing reception for the hit series. "It’s a bit overwhelming, and certainly a lot more attention than we anticipated getting for the show," Tierney told. "It’s great. I’m thrilled, and I’m quite tired and all the stuff that comes with it, of running on adrenaline for too long. There’s so much good TV out there, so to break through the noise at all is amazing."

In related news, Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady expressed their excitement about the show being greenlit for season 2. "Watching our show become an international phenomenon has been extraordinary. We’re profoundly grateful to everyone who has been on this journey with us. Being renewed for a second season so early is a true honor, and we can’t wait to bring you even more of what you love."

For now, the countdown is on as 'Heated Rivalry' season 1 promises a humdinger finale.
