NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Survivor Felicia Rosario, 40, of the infamous Sarah Lawrence College cult has shared a decade of horror and abuse at the hands of Lawrence "Larry" Ray, 63, who has been sentenced to 60 years in prison on January 20, 2023, for sex trafficking, mentally manipulating and abusing a group of young people who were forced to work without being paid. Narrating the details, Felicia said, "He rewrote everyone's childhood, and he said all kinds of horrible things happened to me. He had me saying that my dad had prostituted me, and that I was sexually abused by him. All sorts of horrible things that just were not true."

In an interview, Felicia, who is one of the several survivors, including her brother, Santos Rosario, said, "I met Larry because he was helping my brother Santos." Santos reportedly dated Larry's daughter, Talia, for a short period. "He [Santos] was happier and doing better. And then he [Larry] was helping my sister Yalitza, and she was happier. I'd also met Talia when she was dating my brother and I loved her. So I had a lot of other people vouching for him. He was like a friend of a friend of a friend — cool, trustworthy, reliable. It didn't occur to me he would be the person he ended up being," as per People. Larry's other victims included Daniel Levin, Claudia Drury, and Isabella Pollok.

How did Larry Ray meet his victims?

Larry allegedly met the college students through his daughter, Talia, in September 2010. At the time, Talia was a student at Sarah Lawrence in Yonkers, New York, and lived in a large dorm named Slonim Woods 9 with seven other students, according to The Cut. He reportedly moved in with his daughter in the dorm after he was released from prison, where he served time for a custody charge related to his children. Talia told other students that her father was imprisoned for “heroically” trying to save her sister and herself from her “abusive mother,” reports New York Times. But he was arrested because his then-girlfriend accused him of trapping her in their apartment, reports The Cut. To impress the victims, Larry allegedly cooked steak dinners and ordered expensive delivery for Talia and other housemates, and dropped references to his connection with high-ranking American military officers

'He took over my mind'

After graduating from both Harvard and Columbia Medical School, Felicia was then living in Los Angeles and was working at a hospital where she was doing her residency in forensic psychiatry. This was 2010, the same year which reportedly made her mentally, sexually, and physically tortured for the next 10 years by the cult leader in New York City. "He could talk about anything. He was just a very interesting and dynamic person. Like you wanted to hang out with him," Felicia described. Their relationship allegedly escalated quickly. She went back to LA from New York, but he was "love bombing" her. Sending her gifts and flowers also allegedly deprived her of sleep as much as he could. "He'd keep me on the phone all night long," said Felicia. "Little by little, he took over my mind. I don't even know how he did it. He made me feel like there truly were people after me, people coming to hurt me, and that people had hurt me in my past."

Larry allegedly convinced her that he was the only one who could protect her. "He broke me. He made me fall apart. In the series ['Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence'], you can even hear him gaslighting me." The three-part Hulu docu-series 'Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence,' which premiered on Thursday, February 9, examines the 10 years of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse that Larry subjected them to. It includes original footage of the abuse, as well as first-hand accounts from the survivors, reports Variety.

Believing that he will protect her, Felicia went to New York, where Larry physically and mentally abused his followers. He allegedly recorded their sexual interactions, which he then used to blackmail them, threatening to send them to their parents and post them online if they didn't obey him. "He did this with everyone. He rewrote everyone's childhood," Felicia narrated.

Where is Larry Ray now?

Larry was arrested in February 2020 and in April 2022. Larry was convicted of 17 counts including sex trafficking, extortion, forced labor, and money laundering, reports Newsweek. Prosecutors stated that Larry extorted around $1 million total from Talia's friends during a 10-year period, starting in 2010. US prosecutor Damian Williams said during Larry's trial that he "used violence, threats, and psychological abuse to try to control and destroy their lives," as per BBC. In January 2023, Larry was sentenced to 60 years in prison in the federal Manhattan courthouse for racketeering conspiracy, violent crime in aid of racketeering, extortion, sex trafficking, forced labor, tax evasion, and money laundering offenses.
