'When the Weather is Fine' Episode 9 centers on Eun-seop's (Seo Kang-joon) insecurities about the fleetingness of what happiness really is. He keeps getting anxious because, despite liking Hae-won (Park Min-young) from when he was young, he is always waiting for the other shoe to drop. He contemplates how he has always been uncomfortable at the thought of warm and happy instances because the possibility of losing all of them in just an instance is really high.

While all of this plays on his mind, he unintentionally distances himself from Hae-won. He informed her that he would call her after he reached Seoul but doesn't and he also looks uncomfortable for just a moment around her. Hae-won also picks up on this, but she confronts him and tells him that they can go back to being friends if he feels he made a mistake when the two had gone to the mountain top.

This episode also sheds light on how little Hae-won knows about Eun-seop. She enjoyed his warm family without realizing that he is adopted. So this episode, when she sees Eun-seop's father get into a fight about his son being sent to the mountain every time someone goes missing, one of the men mentions how Eun-seop is not really a part of their family and this angers Eun-seop's father and that's how we learn the truth about Eun-seop's past.

He was a child who was brought up by his father amid wildlife and everything that nature had to offer. The cabin that Eun-seop visits often is where he used to live with his father and he was a happy child. However, when he returned to the cabin one fine day, he finds his father has disappeared from the cabin and that was how the happy child has turned to an angry, aggressive little boy.

Since then Eun-seop hasn't let happiness touch him truly because he was truly scared of losing it all in an unexpected moment. He believed that you wouldn't miss what you didn't have. This explains why he was initially hesitant to accept Hae-won's feelings despite liking her. This also explains Eun-seop's connection to the mountain, and how familiar he is with the wild.

This episode also delves further into Hae-won's aunt Myeong-yu's life as well. It introduces her lover from the past, a young boy who had professed his love for her in the train but is now nowhere near her. We learn that he is the chief editor of a well-to-do publishing company in Seoul and his relationship with Myeong-yu is clearly strained and yet he approaches her and asks her to publish her book through his company instead of the one that she was going with. How these individual plots will come together is something we are anticipating, because for now; the show is more of a collection of stories about people who don't have any connection.

New episodes of 'When the Weather is Fine' will air on Mondays and Tuesdays on JTBC.
