LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sony Pictures Classics has finally announced the release date for 'Daddio', a film starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn in prominent roles.

Directed and written by Christy Hall, and produced by the likes of Dakota, Ro Donnelly, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff, 'Daddio' is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 28, 2024.

'Daddio' premiered at last year's Telluride Film Festival, where it made its debut to an audience comprising industry professionals, critics, and film enthusiasts.

Following its premiere in Telluride, the film went on to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), further solidifying its presence in the film festival circuit.

What is 'Daddio' about?

'Daddio' takes place primarily within the confines of a taxi cab, using this setting as a microcosm to delve into the themes of human connection and introspection.

Following her arrival at JFK Airport, a young woman (Dakota Johnson) hails a taxi to her Manhattan apartment. During the ride, she and the cab driver, Clark (Sean Penn), have discussions about various topics, including their romantic histories, the complexities of sexual and power dynamics, and their present relationship.

The synopsis reads, "DADDIO celebrates the power found in those rare moments of pure human connection, even with the most unlikely person. This highly contained, yet kinetic character-study -- encapsulated in one single cab ride -- explores the complexities inherent to the secrets we keep, particularly the ones locked away on our phones."

Who stars in 'Daddio'?

Dakota Johnson, who is best known for portraying Anastasia Steele in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' trilogy, takes on the role of Girlie in 'Daddio'.

Johnson has also lent her talents in ventures like 'Black Mass', 'How to Be Single', 'Suspiria', 'Bad Times at the El Royale' and 'The Lost Daughter'.

Most recently, she entered the superhero genre with 'Madame Web'. However, the action thriller proved to be a huge disappointment, both financially and critically.

Sean Penn, who is best known for his roles in the mystery drama 'Mystic River' and the biopic 'Milk', portrays Clark in 'Daddio'. The critically acclaimed actor has won two Oscar awards.

Johnson was the one who first suggested Penn for the role and personally sent him the script.
