With its post-apocalyptic setting and unexpected revelations, Prime Video's 'Fallout' Season 2 is keeping fans glued to their seats. Based on the video game franchise of the same name, Season 2 of the fan-favorite series follows Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) as they search for her father, Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan). Amidst their quest, Episode 7, titled 'The Handoff', introduces a new part of the canon, raising the stakes higher than ever.

The episode opens with a tense flashback in another country, where Steph and her mother are being chased through a snow-covered forest. After her mother is shot and killed, she urges Steph to reach America at any cost, referring to their pursuers as "Americans." The scene sheds light on a major reveal from an earlier episode, where Steph's hidden pre-apocalypse ID is discovered, exposing her as Canadian. Even more disturbing is the ID's designation of Canada as a "United States Annexed Territory," hinting at a darker, previously unseen part of Fallout's canon, as per Inverse.

In the Fallout canon, China is portrayed as the primary enemy, a conflict rooted in the Battle of Anchorage after China invaded Alaska in 2066. The U.S. responded by pressuring and eventually annexing Canada to strengthen its military reach and exploit resources. Although both nations collapsed after the apocalypse, the episode reveals that anti-Canadian propaganda has persisted for centuries within the Vaults. This means Steph is not only a pre-apocalypse survivor but also not truly American, a revelation that could have major consequences for Vault 33 with the season finale approaching.

To add more, Amazon renewed 'Fallout' for a third season in May 2025, months before Season 2 premiered. As per reports, writing for Season 3 is already in progress, showing strong momentum and confidence in the series' future. Executive producer Jonathan Nolan said filming for Season 3 is expected to begin this summer, with plans to get it on air "as soon as possible." Amazon also echoed the same enthusiasm when announcing the renewal. "We are absolutely thrilled that our global Prime Video customers will be able to delve deeper into the wonderfully surreal and captivating world of Fallout," said Vernon Sanders, global head of television at Amazon MGM Studios.

The statement further read, "Jonah (Nolan), Lisa (Joy), Geneva (Robertson-Dworet), and Graham (Wagner) have done an exceptional job bringing this beloved video game franchise to vivid life on Prime Video. Together with our amazing partners at Bethesda Games and Bethesda Softworks, we are delighted to announce a third season of Fallout, well ahead of the much-anticipated debut of Season Two," as per Newsweek.

'Fallout' Season 2 was written between mid-2024 and October 2024 and premiered roughly 15 months later. If Season 3 follows a similar timeline, new episodes could arrive as early as March 2027, and even in a slower scenario, the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 is expected to be shorter than the wait between the first two seasons.
