'Welcome To Plathville': Kim and Barry homeschool their children to ensure they won't learn 'bad habits' at school

None of the Plath children have ever gone to a school as Kim and Barry have taken the responsibility of educating their children
UPDATED NOV 6, 2019

Kim and Barry Plaths allowed viewers to dive into their lives as they made their television debut with 'Welcome To Plathville'. The family takes joy in spending time at their 55-acre farmland. The nearest town is 10 miles away from their house and their children spend their time doing activities at the farm.

However, another thing that the Plath children do at their home is study. None of the Plath children have ever gone to a school and Kim and Barry have taken the responsibility of educating their children.

Kim believes that the period schooling is the only time when her children can take in all the knowledge. However, she had concerns about what is taught in the school. Rather than placing her trust in the school system, Kim decided to educate her children on her own terms.

While Kim spends an equal amount of time teaching them, none of them have ever questioned her decision as to why they are not allowed to go to school like other children. However, her son, Micah has some views as to why this could be.

He believes that his parents have "shelled him" from the rest of the world to ensure that they are given the best education. At the same time, he believes that his parents do not want him or his siblings to learn any "bad habits" that they could if they were to go to school.

Kim hinted that by making her children study with her it allowed her to choose what is right and what is not for them. At the same time, Barry motivates his children to spend a lot of their time doing activities on the farm that would also help them gain an understanding of household chores.

While the children seem to enjoy what is being offered to them, the big question is, will they continue liking it even when they see Ethan living a different life?

To find out more about the show, watch 'Welcome To Plathville' on Tuesdays at 10 pm on TLC.
