Speaking at the London premiere, the showrunner explained that the production team actively pushed the fantasy drama "up a gear" to meet escalating audience expectations and teased that the upcoming season is their biggest by a huge margin, but noted that the massive scope of these new episodes leaves the writing team with the daunting task of trying to outdo themselves for Season 4, which HBO has officially renewed with an expected 2028 release schedule. The third season of the hit HBO series continues the brutal 'Dance of the Dragons' civil war, following the fractured Targaryen dynasty as the battle for the Iron Throne intensifies.
