“It’s typical”: Obsession’s Curry Barker reacts to pay controversy after crew reveals $6.7K pay
Curry Barker is breaking his silence on the pay controversy surrounding his hit movie, ‘Obsession.’ The horror movie, made on a small budget of just $750,000, is now on track to make over $300 million worldwide. But with the growing success comes scrutiny on the pay distribution. The movie’s art director Sally Choi shared an Instagram post revealing she was paid just $6,741 for the movie and demanded there needs to be a change in earnings distribution within the industry.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter released on June 15, 2026, Barker reacted to the controversy, saying, “This movie was made for so little money that it’s typical that the only people who benefit from its financial success are the people who took on some sort of risk.” He added, “But what I hope is that every person that worked really hard on this film will see opportunities to catapult their careers in ways that can be very financially fruitful for them – like what’s happening for me.”
