'Vikings' spin-off: Bjorn, Rollo, or William the Conqueror? Fans discuss Michael Hirst's continuation of the History series

From 'Bjorned' to Rollo in Normandy, here are fan theories on what the spinoff should be about, and they are certain they don't want it to be about one certain 'Vikings' character

'Vikings' spin-off: Bjorn, Rollo, or William the Conqueror? Fans discuss Michael Hirst's continuation of the History series

The story of Ragnar Lothbrok wrapped up in season 4 and the tale of his sons will conclude in the upcoming installment, season 6. However, that will not be the end of 'Vikings.' Michael Hirst, the creator of the History Channel's flagship show promptly announced a spin-off is being discussed and the saga will continue. Talking about expanding the 'Vikings' universe, Hirst said there will be a continuation and a connection but "it may not involve necessarily the same characters."

He added, "I can’t go into more details than that, but for the fans of the show it will be a continued enjoyment of the Vikings experience.” The news of the spin-off gave immense hope to 'Vikings' fans, who, of course, were disheartened to know the saga would end after season 6, releasing later this year.  Fans took to Reddit to discuss the 'Vikings' spin-off and came up with some hilarious and interesting speculations.

First of all, Ragnar's eldest son and the king of Kattegat, Bjorn Ironside was considered by fans, mainly because he is a womanizer and his romance is quite a whirlwind for the saga. A fan made a poster and titled it "Bjorned," featuring Bjorn and all his lovers through the seasons. 'Bjorned' refers to "the look" he gives women and they somehow fall for it, like getting zapped, but fans have been using it as a word to imply many things such as; "getting laid."

Viewers also noticed more of Rollo's story needs to be told. He was overshadowed by his able brother, Ragnar Lothbrok, and his story in Normandy was not shown, but he is an ancestor of William the Conqueror, so fans are hoping his story can be taken forward.

Spelling out the possibility of Rollo's storyline, fans discussed "I’d like to see Rollo’s story in detail, from when he married to the story of William the Conqueror. We only saw a little of his life in France unfortunately." Another user added it would be "so cool" to have a show involving William the Conqueror and Rollo, while another fan opined the spinoff could focus more on the Saxons "Alfred the great vs Ivar [the Boneless]."

Season 6 will likely be a throwdown between Ivar and Bjorn, and the spinoff may be totally disengaged to the characters we know. William the Conqueror seems plausible since it has 'Vikings' history to it while being a totally new character.

The only dreading scenes for the fans would be a spinoff on Floki. What started as the boat builder's journey to finding the true god in Asgard, leading a flock of humans from Kattegat, turned out to be one of the most boring episodes in 'Vikings' season 5. "Plot twist - the spin-off is just about Floki in Iceland.... Oh no..," a user commented on a chain that stated "Bjorn in the [Mediterranean] or Rollo in Normandy would have been much better season-long side plots than Floki in Iceland."
