Video: SUV driver charged with felony vandalism for causing damage to Petco Park field
Cops in San Diego arrested a man driving a white SUV after he was caught doing doughnuts on Petco Park field, San Diego, California. The incident occurred at around 10 am on Friday, February 18, as the grounds crew was working to prepare the field for the upcoming baseball games. The driver seemed to be enjoying his joyride on the field in a video posted on social media before the grounds crew members realized what was going on and blocked him from leaving the field with a small forklift until the San Diego Police Department arrived.
Fortunately, a man named Ryan Carlson happened to be at the park at the time, and he was quick enough to grab his phone and record the bizarre scene. When Carlson first noticed the SUV enter the ballpark through a tunnel in left field, he was on the phone. He first assumed it was a member of the grounds crew, who had been working on the field all week.

Carlson told San Diego Tribune, “and then he just whips out and starts doing doughnuts. After about a minute, he came to a stop, and a bunch of the grounds crew guys made their way to the car and did like a citizens’ arrest. It happened peacefully, wasn’t aggressive, at least as far as I saw. They walked him over and sat him down.”

He went on to say, “I just kind of recorded it as a joke saying you know, this guy must be really pissed about the new playoff format that the MLB is implementing or, you know, the lockout itself. Once the car came to a stop and people started to surround it, that’s when I realized I might have just witnessed a crime. It really wasn’t that apparent at first — there was no real sense of, you know, urgency from anybody. Everybody was pretty calm.”
In the video, the driver is seen sitting on the dirt and surrounded by employees until security arrived near the end of the video. Shortly after the incident, he was apprehended by police, bringing his thrill ride to an end, and charged with felony vandalism for "causing some damage to the field,” Lt Adam Sharki of San Diego police reported to San Diego Tribune.
