'Utopia Falls' star Mickeey Nguyen 'was floored' while working with Tanisha Scott: ‘I’m her biggest fan’
YouTube sensation Mickeey Nguyen (27) is now shining bright in the realm of television. Thanks to his latest role as Mags in Hulu’s sci-fi musical series ‘Utopia Falls’, he has managed to carve a niche for himself as not just a promising actor, but a multi-talented personality.
In ‘Utopia Falls’, Nguyen plays the role of one of the participants of the annual talent competition Exemplar, in the city of New Babyl. Throughout the series, Nguyen has put his singing and dancing skills on display, and they have been lauded by the viewers.
Besides the fact that he landed a role in R.T. Throne’s series, Nguyen was super-thrilled on learning that Tanisha Scott, an ever-talented choreographer who has worked with stars such as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, was going to conduct his dance call.
In an exclusive interview with MEA Worldwide (MEAWW), Nguyen shared, “I was floored because I’m honestly her biggest fan. She’s stunning, she’s been someone who I’ve always wanted to work with and she’s truly the sweetest person I’ve ever met. And the amount of talent in the room from the others was insane. I really had doubts if I’d be able to land this or not. It definitely was a wild ride.”
He added: “Her artistry and dedication for making this futuristic movement authentic were phenomenal, and as the show progresses, you experience a whole lot more. The thought of all of the pieces you’ll see coming from this kind-hearted soul is breath-taking for me. But yes, you get to see Mags dance, you’ll also hear him sing, you’ll basically see him do everything.”
‘Utopia Falls’ is the first sci-fi musical ever made. When asked what sets the show apart from the other shows of the same genre besides music, he told MEAWW, “It ('Utopia Falls') pulls from the past, which we currently know and are aware of. And for those who don’t, they can get introduced to it and have the opportunity to experience this discovery with our characters. It’s almost like a full circle where we get a re-introduction of our past and not many sci-fi shows do that.”
“I find that with some sci-fi shows, they can sometimes set too deep into a future where the audience has to adapt to a completely new culture and existence. Whereas 'Utopia Falls' still carries the existing aspects of the history that we are familiar with and can relate to," Nguyen explained.
