'United We Fall' Premiere: Cancel 'boomer a** sitcom' for taking dig at millennials, says Angry Internet

The not-so-forgiving half of the internet is sick of sitcoms making fun of millennials and using the same old tropes and gimmicks to force a laugh out of its audience

ABC's latest sitcom 'United We Fall' opened to some rather radical mixed reviews. On one hand, people were touting the double-episode premiere for its subtle satire on parenting, eagle-eyed family members and even police officers for that matter. On the other hand, people got really angry with the half-hour comedy for those exact reasons. While a giant chunk of the internet is touting the Julius Sharpe show for being steady with its jokes that have worked for ages, the other not-so-forgiving half of the internet is sick of sitcoms taking digs at millennials and using the same old tropes and gimmicks to force a laugh out of its audience.

The series revolves around Bill (Will Sasso) and Jo (Christina Vidal Mitchell), parents to Emily and Lulu, who are barely scraping by at the parenting gig. Dealing with medical crisis and school stuff for their children daily, the couple seems to be really good at forgetting their very young daughter at odd places while being closely scrutinized by Bill's ubiquitous mother Sandy Ryan (Jane Curtin) and Jo's judgmental brother Chuy (Guillermo Diaz), both of whom live with the family of four. Mother-in-law snark and 'fiery Latina' jokes aside there isn't much the comedy brings new to the table, and that is what seems to have rubbed fans the wrong way.

"#UnitedWeFall how many more Boomer ass sitcom shows are y'all gonna make? I hope this gets cancelled immediately. No one liked Last Man Standing why did you think anyone would like this? Making fun of liberal Millenials is getting old come up with something new," shared an angry user on Twitter. Another remarked: "Just watched #UnitedWeFall premiere and the main character asks a police officer 'who are you to tell me what’s right and what’s wrong' and he responds 'I’m a police officer'. I know its a funny joke, but the police uphold the law, they don’t dictate it. @ABCNetwork offended me."

A third user complained: "That is thirty minutes of my life I will never get back. Awful show." Another wrote: "Watched 12 mins of #UnitedWeFall. I was bored. Poorly written, no cast chemistry. It all felt forced, gasping at low hanging fruit for 'jokes'. I was excited but now disappointed."

But it wasn't all negative reactions as some viewers found these very tropes entertaining and hilarious. Or perhaps they are just easily amused, as one shared, "Thank you, #UnitedWeFall, for giving me a funny & entertaining diversion from the insanity of real-life... and for bringing @WillSasso and Jane Curtin back to my TV screen."

'United We Fall' will air on Wednesdays at 8/7c only on ABC.
