Who was Uma Gupta? Bullied girl, 14, who performed with Ariana Grande kills herself by jumping before train
A 14-year-old girl Uma Gupta, who had once performed alongside Ariana Grande after the Manchester Arena terror attack, reportedly killed herself by jumping in front of a train. Reports suggest that the teenager was a victim of bullying and she decided to take her own life after a bully from her school at Parrs Wood High School in Manchester threatened to “stab” her.
Gupta’s tragic death in March 2019 came to light after her personal diary entry revealed that she was battling suicidal thoughts when she decided to kill herself. She left a friend’s party “upset” before heading to East Didsbury railway station, where she reportedly died. Recently it was revealed at the court hearing that Gupta was being bullied in school.

She left the party saying she wanted to ‘kill herself’
Gupta’s family has revealed that she was seemingly unhappy for a long time before she ended her life. On the night of her death, she is said to have left her friend’s house saying she wanted to “kill herself”. She to her friends her mother was going to pick her up but instead walked to East Didsbury station, where she was hit by a running train around 10 pm.
Apparently, she had made numerous diary entries prior to her death and spoke about taking her own life. According to Daily Mail, one entry from October 10, 2018 made by Gupta read, “Don't be upset. I wasn't happy and things weren't going to change. Just imagine I was never here. I love my family and friends. I planned this for ages.”
She was ‘low and withdrawn’
Gupta’s parents reportedly told her “how beautiful she looked” on the night of her death and even noted that “she seemed happy” before leaving home to attend her friend’s party. However, sources have revealed that her mood “changed” while she was at the party, as she began sobbing in the kitchen and bathroom saying, “I don't want to be here, I want to kill myself.”
It is also said that she was “upset” by the suicide of one of her distant relatives in September 2018. Reportedly, she had “re-searched” suicide methods online in the months after the death of the family member.
Her family noted that her mood had begun to change by November 2018, and she seemed “low and withdrawn.” In December, she was taken to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital by police after she was spotted on the street banging her head against the floor saying “she wanted to die.” During the psychiatric assessment, she revealed she was being bullied at school by a girl who was threatening to “stab” her.
Her death is concluded as ‘suicide’
Gupta’s death was concluded as suicide by Senior coroner Nigel Meadows, who said her actions were “deliberate” despite reports of bullying. He said, “In respect of the issue which has been described as bullying there was a conflict in July 2018 and other contacts that Uma had with the young lady in question. There were allegations of bullying, I accept that is the case. But Uma's diary is consistent and clear about her mental health.”
“I am satisfied that Uma is the only person who caused herself to leave the platform in front of that the train. I am satisfied she deliberately did that and all the available evidence is that's what she intended to do,” he added further.
