President Donald Trump, on Saturday, November 7, 2020, took to Twitter claiming to have "won" the 2020 presidential elections against Democrat nominee Joe Biden, who have been called by many outlets to be the president-elect. Trump also claimed of having registered a record victory that transpired for the first time in the country's history. Later, in more tweets, the president claimed his observers were barred from the counting rooms, and further said he won a record number of 71 million legal votes, "The most EVER for a sitting President!"

Trump first tweeted, in all caps, "I won this election, by a lot!" followed by saying, again in all caps, "The observers were not allowed into the counting rooms. I won the election, got 71,000,000 legal votes. Bad things happened which our observers were not allowed to see. Never happened before. Millions of mail-in ballots were sent to people who never asked for them!" In a third tweet, the current president wrote, "71,000,000 Legal Votes. The most EVER for a sitting President!"

Trump continued with the narrative that votes cast in favor of him were apparently not counted and also alleged that millions of mail-in ballots were sent to people who never asked for them. However, these tweets were flagged by Twitter for being a disputed claim about alleged election fraud. In fact, multiple tweets by Trump have been flagged by Twitter throughout the election process for being potentially misleading, particularly regarding allegations of voter fraud and results.

These tweets by the president come amid reports that he refuses to concede the election to Biden, and plans on contesting it in the courts. Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal attorney, said at a press conference shortly after Biden was projected to become the 46th president of the United States that Trump will not concede the election. "Obviously he's not going to concede when at least 600,000 ballots are in question," Giuliani said in Philadelphia on Saturday, November 7, 2020. According to Giuliani, the Trump campaign plans to file several federal lawsuits alleging the "uniform deprivation of the right to inspect" ballots. He accused the "Democratic machine in Philadelphia" of tampering with counting, and "keeping the votes of dead people secret."

How many votes did Trump get?

According to the New York Times tracker, Trump has, till now, received a total of 70,367,981 votes, or 47.7 percent. Biden, on the other hand, has received a total of 74,537,842 or 50.5 percent.

Twitter reacted swiftly to Trump's claims with one user tweeting, "Turn on the TV pig d**k," while another wrote, "If Donald Trump actually lost, it's still a great record to walk away with! Goes to show: a huge part of the #US electorate did & does not want politics-as-usual played by long term DC-embedded types, & appreciates more transparency & lots of direct to people tweeting." Another, quoting Will Ferrell's character Ricky Bobby from 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby', said, "If you're not first, you're last" while another called it a "weird way to say 'I lost'".
