Dr Mary Trump has claimed that her uncle won’t re-run for the presidency in 2024, but “will pretend to” in order to make money. During a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, former President Donald Trump said that he “may” run three years later. He said on February 28, "I may decide to beat them for a third time," after claiming he beat Democrats already in 2020. But his niece has a different point of view of him and his plans.

Dr Trump had a conversation with Mehdi Hasan for his new MSNBC show, where she explained, “It's not that I don't think he will. I think he will pretend to, for sure. Think about how much money he made in the last few months. He made more since [President Joe] Biden won the election than he has in his entire life. I don't think he will let that go so soon. But you're right, there is no way he will put himself in the position of losing again. But the Republican Party seems determined to continue to keep him relevant."

According to a report by The New York Times, even after losing the 2020 presidential race, the Republican made $207.5 million in the month since Election Day. Under the pretence of supporting his various legal challenges, his campaign team reportedly continued to collect donations. “These tremendous fund-raising numbers show President Trump remains the leader and source of energy for the Republican Party,” Bill Stepien, Trump’s campaign manager said in a statement in January.

Dr Trump was hopeful about the legal problems that have currently engulfed Trump, and said it will affect his children too as they all took full advantage of their power and position as well as of the American public through violations of the Emoluments Clause and the Hatch Act. During the interview, Hasan also mentioned the golden statue of Trump that turned heads at the CPAC, adding that clearly, the attendees of the conference hadn't read The Old Testament.

Dr Trump noted, “It is pretty, I guess it should not be shocking anymore, but it is pretty demoralizing. I think this is a long time coming. This has been the Republican project for decades now to take so much away from people that really all they have left to make themselves feel better than is the color of their skin. We cannot underestimate the pull of white supremacy in this party and I'm not talking about the fringes, this is mainstream Republicanism right now."

The psychologist also added that “a lot of people need unity they need sameness. And the Republican Party has gotten really good at stoking division. In cases like that people want to stick with what they know. They want to stick with what makes them feel better about themselves. And, unfortunately, Donald has always been very good at doing that."

Several people took to Twitter after Mary’s remark on her uncle. One user tweeted, “Easier to grift with the intention of losing (exactly what he did in 2016) than it is to run earnestly and lose a second time.” Another user commented, “The great pretender. It's really all he's good at is pretending. The illusion is real to a lot of stups.” A person wrote, “It is a Tier 1 grift. Remember when his last campaign came up short a sh*t-ton of cash? Guess where it went.” The other person added, “After hearing Mary, I've changed my mind. We should #OverruleTheParliamentarian and get on with it. Republicans have shown us who they are (traitorous), THERE ARE NO RULES ANYMORE, so let's save our democracy AND help the people. They'll come around. Let's roll, @POTUS @VP.”
