They're two of the biggest names in sci-fi, each with dedicated fanbases and franchises that spread across all boundaries of media. 'Transformers' and 'Terminator' are easily two of the most important fandoms in the world and now IDW Publishing and Dark Horse Comics are bringing the two together like never before.

In 'Transformers vs The Terminator' #1, the origins of the two franchises are merged together, with the Decepticons threatening to wipe out humanity in the not-so-distant future. But don't worry because on the good side we have the deadly combination of T-800 and the Autobots.

Honestly, the preview pages and solicitations released for the upcoming series don't reveal much at all beyond that there's a Man-Machine War at the heart of the story. Oh and it all begins in 1984, the year when the original 'Terminator' movie came out and the franchise's saga officially began.

The cover art for the issue combines the iconic designs of T-800 and Optimus Prime, which seems like a pretty crazy idea. We're still not entirely sure how the series will bring the two franchises together but we are expected to see the results nonetheless.

'Transformers vs The Terminator' #1 was written by David Mariotte, John Barber, and Tom Waltz with art by Alex Milne. The cover art for the upcoming issue was designed by Gavin Fullerton.

In an interview with SYFY WIRE, John Barber said, "Teaming up The Terminator and Transformers was something we’d talked about literally for years... I mean, it was just kind of 'wouldn’t it be cool if' kind of a thing. But we were talking with our friends at Dark Horse Comics about some other potential projects and they threw out the idea as a real idea."

"I was pretty excited and reached out to Michael Kelly at Hasbro, and he was into the idea, so we started talking about it with Dark Horse and hashing out a direction. And it’s been super-fun! We’ve all been on the same page from the beginning," he added.

Here's the official solicitation for the issue: "It's Skynet vs Cybertron in a crossover for the ages! 1984: When a deadly race of machines emerge from another time, will a robotic guardian be able to protect the Earth from a dire future... or will the T-800 fail in his mission to prevent the world from becoming a plaything to the Decepticons?"

'Transformers vs The Terminator' #1 will arrive in stores on March 25.
