'Total Bellas': Nikki says she did not marry John Cena because she feared she'll be 'stuck' like her mother

Nikki Bella and John Cena's relationship had everyone rooting for the pair to walk down the aisle when the two WWE stars started dating back in 2012.

While they did get engaged on April 2, 2017, their difference of opinion with regard to their future had the pair make the difficult decision of going their separate ways on April 15, 2018, and canceling their wedding scheduled for May 5, 2018.

They had previously stated that their separation was mutual but fans never got an answer as to what really happened between them.

The latest episode (April 16) of 'Total Bellas' had Nikki throwing some light on what exactly happened when she decided to not go ahead with the wedding. The reality star hinted that a lot of her issues with relationships stem from the toxic relationship of her parents.

She confessed that seeing their relationship affected her as she grew up as it made it hard for her to trust men. "I feel like because of my childhood, it caused me not to have trust in men," she shared.

"I do see where I carry that into my relationships and even just committing. All I've ever thought of is it would be so amazing to walk down the aisle, but then I get close, and I can't even breathe. Because I'm like…am I just going to be stuck in something that I don’t want to be in? And I just carry that with me because that's how mom was for so long, stuck. And I think that's just what I learned."

The previous seasons of 'Total Bellas' have hinted at the problems the pair had. When the two got engaged, they were on the same page about starting a family. This, however, changed along with other problems leading to the pair deciding to separate.

While Nikki has happily moved on from that relationship, she is now dating Artem Chigvintsev. Artem and Nikki's relationship has had people believing in love again. Artem has even met Nikki's parents and grandmother, hinting that their relationship is much more serious than the world would have thought.

Even though Nikki's relationship with John may not have ended in the way she had expected, let's hope she paints a different picture with Artem. 'Total Bellas' airs on Thursdays at 9 pm ET on E!
