Michigan man brutally beats girlfriend's 1-year-old twin sons, one found dead with ‘unspeakable injuries’
A Michigan man beat a toddler to death and severely injured his twin brother after pretending to be a family man, it is alleged. The twins' uncle noted how one of them was found dead with "unspeakable injuries," while the other sustained a broken hip, broken nose, and brain hemorrhage, The Sun reported. Authorities found one-year-old Zyaire Reed unconscious on the hood of a car in Ecorse after responding to a call at 4 am in late July this year. Zyaire and his twin brother Zion had been living with their mother Lisa Reed and her boyfriend James Gibson at a residence on 7th Street for the previous three months.
Police took the mother into custody while her boyfriend had reportedly fled the home, located near Detroit. "The live-in boyfriend decided to leave, took the family vehicle, and did not return," Inspector Timothy Sassak of Ecorse police said.
Following a 12-hour manhunt, Gibson was finally apprehended at a residence about 25 miles away from the home and is now reportedly facing first-degree child abuse charges. "This is the worst I've ever seen," Sassak added. Online court documents revealed previous charges against Gibson, including "larceny, armed robbery, carjacking, fleeing from police, and concealing and receiving a stolen motor vehicle," The Sun reported. According to Lisa's sister Jennifer Reed, she was autistic and constantly manipulated by Gibson.
“This sicko manipulated my sister and played a very narcissistic role in making himself seem like the ‘father of the year’ while doing this disgusting thing," she told CrimeOnline. "He is a manipulating sociopath that took advantage of a situation and committed a displace, incomprehensible, disgusting, and vile thing,” she continued, claiming her sister was asleep while Zyaire was being abused.
That said, Lisa Reed is also facing child abuse charges. Meanwhile, the twins' grandmother Susan Williams-Bawol has set up an online fundraising campaign for little Zyaire's funeral. "His life was taking [sic] at the hands of a monster," she said. "I don't even know what to say here, I am so lost and hurt."
“What he did to those babies makes me lose sleep. I have nightmares. I am sick,” Jennifer added to ABC7.
Earlier this month, we reported how a Texas man shot dead his two young daughters after he threatened to take the children from their mother. Kyle Brandon Grieb, 30, fatally shot and killed Amyah Engleman, 2, as well as 6-month-old Caraline Engleman on August 27. Both the children had been shot in the head. As per documents obtained by the Hays Free Press, the children's bodies had been found under a tarp in the backyard of their mother's home.
The incident is said to have taken place outside a home located off Boulder Bluff in San Marcos where deputies were called to the 900 block for a child custody matter, KSAT reports. Grieb's body was found close by to the others as well. Grieb had reportedly spent the night at the home just outside San Marcos and told the girls' mother Halie Engleman that he had been planning to take the girls with him.
According to a deputy at the scene, the girls had "obvious gunshot wounds to the head." Police believe that Grieb killed the two children before turning the gun on himself.
