Three new unreleased David Bowie albums set to release for Record Store Day 2018
A total of eight new Bowie releases are forthcoming this month, including a demo version of "Let's Dance"; the 1977 promotional LP Bowie Now; and two live releases.
David Bowie, the artist may be gone, but his music will live on for years to come. And not just his old hits - Bowie seems to have prepared a number of records to be released posthumously, the first of which was 2017's EP, 'No Plan', reports CoS.
In the two years since his death, we have seen the releases of an archival box set featuring the unreleased album 'The Gouster'; reissues of the 'Labyrinth' and 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' soundtracks; the live album 'Cracked Actor' (Live in Los Angeles 1974); a re-pressing of 1971’s 'Bowpromo'; a second archival box set chronicling Bowie’s Berlin trilogy; and an early demo version of 'Let’s Dance'. That would be a stellar feat for some one who is alive, let alone somebody who is dead and gone!
But apparently, there's more to be unearthed from Ziggy Stardust's vault. For Record Store Day 2018, Three rare David Bowie records are set to be released, including an iconic London live performance.
Three Bowie discs for RSD on April 21st: Welcome To The Blackout (Live London '78) 3 x LP live set; Let’s Dance (Full-length) - 12” single with full length version of the demo plus live version; Bowie Now - White vinyl LP issue of US promo only compilation https://t.co/i0BbcTF8P4 pic.twitter.com/lTzh3X200D— David Bowie Official (@DavidBowieReal) March 1, 2018
Record Store Day, which takes place on April 21, will see the release of Bowie’s ‘Welcome To The Blackout (Live London ’78)’ album as a 3xLP set. The record features recordings from Bowie’s ‘Isolar II’ tour performances at London’s now-demolished Earls Court on June 30 and July 1, 1978. A 12-inch single that includes the first-full length version of 'Let’s Dance' (along with a live version on the b-side) is the second in line of releases. And finally, ‘Bowie Now’ – a rare 1977 US only promotional-only LP, featuring tracks from ‘Heroes’ and ‘Low’ – will get its first commercial release.
To add to this triple delight, two reissues have already been announced for next month: Bowie’s 1971 compilation 'ChangestoBowie' will go back into print on April 13, followed on April 20 by a vinyl reissue of 'Aladdin Sane'. The icon’s sixth studio album was initially released on April 20, 1973, with this new reissue coming on April 20 of this year – a full 45 years after its initial release. Pressed onto silver vinyl, the record will only be available from ‘bricks and mortar’ record shops, according to a press release.
As if that weren’t enough, the Brooklyn Museum will be selling an exclusive Bowie vinyl to coincide with the opening of the 'David Bowie Is' exhibit. Fans can get ahold of a 7-inch reproduction of Bowie’s 1973 single 'Time'/'The Prettiest Star'; a mini-LP dubbed Live in Berlin (1978) featuring eight recordings from Bowie’s May 16, 1978 concert in Berlin; and a vinyl reissue of Bowie’s 2008 compilation, 'iSelect'.
These records are available at the museum gift store from March 2 to July 15.
There's a section at the @brooklynmuseum dedicated to Bowie fan art. It had long been a wish of his to exhibit these works and the folks at the museum have risen to the challenge.
