'Those About to Die' Episode 9 Takeaway: Will Kwame win his freedom? Gladiator's fight for survival gets more intense
Contains spoilers for 'Those About to Die'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Peacock's latest series 'Those About to Die' takes audiences to an ancient era of Rome where a bored and violent population is offered free food and entertainment, in the form of chariot racing and gladiator combat.
It also sheds light on the life of the poor, often turned into slaves by the wealthy, snatching them off their freedom.
A major subplot that has us hooked since the beginning is Cala's (Sara Martins-Court) attempt to save and reunite with three children. While Aura (Kyshan Wilson) and Jula are sold to the highest bidders as slaves, Kwame (Moe Hashim) uses his fighting skills to convince the Romans to take him into the city and thus escape slavery.
Kwame establishes himself as a popular gladiator in 'Those About to Die'
Despite struggling in his initial days to fight with a weapon, Kwame eventually learns the art of combat with the help of another gladiator named Viggo (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson).
Kwame is soon pitted against a strong warrior named Flamma (Martyn Ford), who carries an inhumane thirst for killing. Kwame has a low chance of survival but his mother Cala's intervention saves him.
She poisons Flamma before the fight, leading Kwama to emerge as a winner and establish himself as a strong, formidable gladiator.
Will Kwame win the next fight in 'Those About to Die'?
Kwame has gained the title of the Lion killer while his friend Viggo is an equally strong gladiator with 11 victories to his name.
As Kwame wins his way through the combats so far, he will now be placed opposite Viggo, his friend and mentor in the finale episode.
Will Kwame kill his friend or succumb to his tragic fate? The finale episode will offer the most epic gladiator fight, paired with unexpected twists within the royal family.
