'The Voice' Season 18: Country singer Cam Spinks catches Blake Shelton's attention with his perfect vocals
Country singer Cam Spinks from Alabaster, Alabama is certainly making all the right noises on the 'The Voice'.
The 29-year-old grew up on a farm. As a small-town kid, he spent his time in the woods, going fishing and camping, or on tractors and doing odd jobs around his family's farm. He enjoyed the beautiful wildlife he got to see growing up, saying it would be totally normal to just see a baby deer walking through the living room. To hear him tell it, it does sound like something straight out of a fairytale!
He revealed he learned young that hard work was of the utmost importance and he carried that work ethic into his music as well. He has been in bands since he graduated from college and has been writing his own music for years. Cam seemed nervous to be on stage, but he said he was hoping he could control himself and give it all he had for ninety seconds.
Playing his guitar, the country singer took on 'Wave on Wave' by Pat Green. The coaches have limited slots left on each of their teams and they are all being extremely selective with who they take onto their teams now.
Just when it seemed like no one was turning for him despite his vocals seeming like they would be perfect for the show, Cam hit some gorgeous high notes and Blake Shelton turned, followed soon after by Kelly Clarkson and then it was time for them to fight over him.
Blake joked there's not two but one and a half coaches that are fighting over Cam and Kelly agreed saying she's actually pretty short so he's not technically wrong. John Legend said he votes for Kelly because male country singers do not give her enough love.
Kelly talked about Cam's musical influences which range from rock n' roll to country and added that his voice had the ability to tell a story. She also pointed out he has amazing growls in his vocals, stating this is missing in modern country music.
Blake told Cam that he heard the different lanes of country music the singer is influenced by and added that as a coach, he can identify what those lanes are and help Cam navigate them. He also listed his accolades, particularly that he has bought many country singers to finales, and says he believes he can help Cam the most.
Naturally, Cam chooses Blake. Sadly for Kelly, there was no competition here. Cam's vocals that go from clean tones to rasps and growls are perfectly matched with a coach like Blake, even though Kelly is definitely the second-best coach for this contestant.
With that, Blake's team is nearly full and he certainly is happy about it.
'The Voice' airs Monday nights at 8 pm ET on NBC.
