'The Voice' season 17 returns with Gwen Stefani as the new judge, but fans may never get over Adam Levine's exit

Though John Legend, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson will be taking their seats as judges once again, the Maroon 5 frontman will not be returning and has put his red chair days behind him

Time to get excited as 'The Voice' returns for season 17, and by the looks of the recently released trailer, it looks like we're going to be entertained a lot this season, not just by the contestants, but by the judges and their fun banter.

It is no doubt that Adam Levine and Blake Shelton were always constants on the NBC reality TV competition series, but when the news of the series' revival was announced, host Carson Daly was the bearer of bad news when he revealed that though John Legend, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson will be taking their seats as judges once again, the Maroon 5 frontman will not be returning and has put his red chair days behind him.

While we respect Adam's decision to leave the show, there is no doubt that he will be missed, especially for his banter with the famed country singer. Adam was one of the OG coaches who has been on the series since the beginning with Blake. Over the course of 16 seasons, Adam won the competition thrice and inspired the best out of the contestants he worked in his team with over the past seasons.

It is no doubt that Adam will be dearly missed this forthcoming season, but replacing him, and returning again this season as a judge is none other than Blake's beau, Gwen Stefani. Gwen is no new face to the series as she was a coach on seasons seven, nine and 12. She was also a part-time advisor for contestants during seasons eight and 10.

The recently released trailer reveals that though Gwen and Blake are a couple, she will go all out to defeat him. The teaser also shows Gwen blocking Blake for one contestant, and we can't wait to find who that is. Additionally, the trailer teases that we are in for quite some fun from the judges.

Though there are fans who are excited to see the return of Gwen, especially now since she and Blake are a couple, most fans are still not over the fact that Adam will not be returning to his seat as a judge.

"Adam needs to come back. Just won’t be the same without him," wrote a fan on Twitter. Another fan said, "I still love the voice but I’m super sad @adamlevine isn’t gonna be a coach. he was my favorite ever since I started watching and Adam and Blake’s funny banter made the show! #TheVoice."

"I luv @NBCTheVoice but I'm so upset like most that @adamlevine will no longer be a coach. The funny #Bromance between #BlakeShelton and #adamlevine was DEF one of the show's #highlight," added another fan. Fans are surely not shying away from revealing how much they will miss the bromance between Blake and Adam.

'The Voice' season 17 will premiere on NBC on September 23. Check your local listings for more information.
