UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: As the 23rd season of the renowned singing competition, 'The Voice', approaches its pinnacle, the intensity of the competition has reached unprecedented levels. The latest episode of the show signified the culmination of the Knockouts, and as the remaining contestants eagerly awaited their chance to showcase their talents to the coaches, the palpable tension was almost tangible. With the grand finale rapidly approaching, the contestants were acutely aware that their performance had to be nothing short of exceptional if they aspired to progress to the next stage of the competition, that is the Playoffs.

'The Voice' 2023 Knockouts: NBC show's audio woes during performances strike a sour note with furious fans

Sorelle vs Tiana Goss: Who won?

During the course of the performance, Chance was able to distinguish Tiana's distinct vocal abilities. Meanwhile, Reba expressed admiration for Tiana's incredible talent. However, Reba also cautioned that competing against a trio would pose a more formidable challenge for Tiana. Despite the constructive feedback given to Sorelle, Chance found their performance rather underwhelming, likening it to a middle school talent show. While their three-part harmony was commendable, Chance found it hard to envision them emerging victorious in the face of so many notable singers. Conversely, Tiana delivered a well-rounded performance that left a lasting impression, showcasing her vocal prowess and musicality. Kelly commended Tiana for her tender rendition of the song, whereas Sorelle's performance was characterized as "crazy" in a positive sense. Blake, on the other hand, was quick to praise both Tiana and Sorelle, with the latter's sound being deemed "perfect." Niall echoed Blake's sentiments and applauded both performances. In the end, Chance had a difficult decision to make, recognizing the unique qualities that each contestant brought to the table. Although Tiana's performance was more polished and technically sound, Chance ultimately chose Sorelle, acknowledging that they brought something to the show that had not been seen before.

'Never believed a trio should go up against a solo artist'

After the performance, Chance the Rapper faced criticism from some fans for pitting a trio against a single artist. Some felt that it was an unfair match-up that put Tiana at a disadvantage. The notion of comparing a solo performer to a group of three seemed like an uneven playing field to some. One tweeted, "Why do they allow group contestants in the voice it seems so unfair", while another said, "@chancetherapper #TheVoice I think The Voice should be one voice only - not 3. Just sayin’". One even pointed out, "Love them but don’t think it’s fair to have them up against 1!! This show is the voice not the voices! Not fair to the solo artist to have to compete with a trio" another added, "I totally agree. I have NEVER been a fan since the Voice started letting multiples compete against a single vocalist. Not taking anything away from the group but I have felt that way every season there is a group". Tweets like, "Everytime #TheVoice hs a singing group compete against a solo artist it makes me want to stop watching #TheVoice Groups should only compete against. groups! Fix The Rules!" and "Television is just waiting for a great variety show. These young ladies no doubt have what it takes for a number-one variety show. Singing, dancing, skits. If NBC wants a top variety show they better sign them." were also seen.
