'The Vampire Diaries' Season 9: Sorry guys, 'TVD' is not returning and here's why

There has been much speculation about 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 9 and many were dying to have a return of the show

Sorry fans, you won't be seeing your favorite gorgeous vampires from 'The Vampire Diaries'. For a long time, there has been much buzz, speculation and hope that the CW show would return for the ninth season, but that's not happening.

Set in the eerie town of Mystic Falls, the long-running series focused on the vampire love triangle between protagonists Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and the handsome Salvatore brothers, and the strange happenings in the town. Honestly speaking, there were hardly any humans, except Matt (Zach Roerig), left in the town, by the end of the show. It was almost overrun by werewolves and witches at one point.

The show concluded after eight seasons in 2017, with a bittersweet ending — as Elena woke up from her deep sleep, and reunited with her love Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). Unfortunately, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) didn't get his happy ending after seasons of misery as he sacrificed himself at the last minute. The show ended with Elena and Damon spending their lives together and then reuniting with their families in heaven. Storylines were resolved and wrapped up.

It's the perfect ending, and that's possibly why showrunner Julie Plec doesn't wish to carry it on further, even though fans would dearly love to see Damon and Elena's kids. Dobrev had once said she discussed the matter of continuing the show and the answer was negative.

Some characters like Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) and Jo (Jodi Lyn O' Keefe) are seen in 'Legacies', but we won't be seeing the chemistry between Dobrev, Wesley and Somerhalder scorching our screens again. In fact, Dobrev had left the show at the end of the sixth season, only to return for the last episode of Season 8.

The three main leads have categorically refused to play the characters again, and Somerhalder even joked that he doesn't know if he can play the youthful vampire anymore. Julie Plec quashed all rumors of a Damon Salvatore spin-off, too. We have already seen 'The Originals', which followed the lives of the original vampires, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies). And now that's over too.

So sorry, TVD fans, the show is *not* returning for a ninth season, and if by some miracle it does, it won't have the OG vampires and humans.
