Is ‘The Undoing’ Season 2 happening? Here's why David E Kelley should pen down more on Grace and Jonathan's life
Six episodes. Three suspects. One murder. David E Kelley's ‘The Undoing’ has kept everyone on their toes ever since it premiered on October 25, 2020. Now, as the thrilling and chilling miniseries comes to an end and gives us all the missing answers, one question on all minds is: Will there be another season?
Based on the 2014 novel ‘You Should Have Known’ by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the series depicts the story of Grace (played by Nicole Kidman), a highly successful therapist and soon-to-be author, who finds herself wrapped up in a murder mystery. Touted to be a limited six-episodic series since the beginning, it's quite unlikely that the show will be renewed for another season. But, as they say, never say never. After all, it's not uncommon for HBO to extend popular limited series past their original plan.
However, the makers haven't hinted at a possibility yet. “This is a tight story, which is why I think six hours is perfect,” director Susanne Bier told Entertainment Weekly. “There's something about six that has a natural arc.”
Not just Bier, Nicole Kidman said the same. “It's not like a drama series where you're not quite sure how they're going to evolve and you have the next season,” the 53-year-old actress told the outlet. “That's why I say it's like cinema because you have a beginning, middle, and end. The thing about a limited series is it's so difficult because you're writing a much longer form of cinema that you have to keep people engaged in, and in some ways, that's so much harder. That, as an actor, is delicious.”
Well, there has been no comment from Kelley himself and considering the huge interest the show has garnered, he could pen down more on Grace and Jonathan's life, couldn't he?
Fans are hoping that it gets renewed. “#TheUndoing and #IndustryHBO are fantastic best shows I’ve seen for a long time. Well done HBO and BBC. Hoping for season 2 on both!” one fan said and another posted, “Final Prediction for #TheUndoing Finale... Hugh Grant is found guilty and later admits to having an affair with the blonde Attorney (Lilly Rabe) who is the actual murderer. Nice little set up for season 2...” A third wrote, “#TheUndoing finale prediction: • Jonathan acquitted • Confirmation of Sylvia & Grandpa's involvement • But who exactly did it remains open-ended Season 2 with Laura Dern announced in coming months.”
