'The Twilight Zone' Season 2 renewal frustrates fans: 'Why are we rebooting classic shows and ruining them?'

Even with ample elements borrowed from 'Black Mirror' and throwbacks to Rod Serling's original, viewers troll Jordan Peele's 'unnecesary reboot'

Jordan Peele's reboot of the '60s classic 'The Twilight Zone' was met with far from exemplary reviews when it first debuted in 2019. Despite borrowing exact plots, elements of horror and characters from Rod Serling's original, it failed to gel well with critics, even though the Oscar-winner's s fanbase was quite impressed with him. This June 25 saw the debut of the remake's second season and while Peele's fanbase continues to tout the auteur's sticks, the majority of viewers believe Serling's classic should have never been messed with in the first place. In that, they just want their 'old dimension' back instead of what they believe is Peele's 'woke' remake ruining things.

Much like its predecessor, Season 2 of 'The Twilight Zone' reboot comes with 10 episodes, premiering all together on CBS All Access. We know what that means – easy, binge-worthy, mindboggling horror on all things supposed to be unsettling. But that's not how things turned out when the series dropped this Thursday; instead, viewers flocked to Twitter, asking why "#TheTwilightZone got renewed?!?! It was terrible!"

Quipping about the alternate dimension of imagination that the anthology horror is set in, another viewer wrote: "Could #TheTwilightZone just take us back to our old dimension? Please." For others, Peele's remake is unnecessarily dark, as a viewer tweeted: "The old TZ was and is very family-friendly and was, still is, very popular. No sexual acts were needed to so call boost ratings. I still binge-watch old TZ." and another simply asked: "When did this show get so dark? Damn."

Even with ample elements borrowed from 'Black Mirror' and throwbacks to Serling's original, comments about Peele's reboot being extra woke-culture pandering didn't take long either. "Saw #TheTwilightZone and it is how most of us feel about our beautiful country being destroyed by the left anarchy," tweeted a user. Another chimed in: "No offense but how is this gonna be any scarier than our current reality...? How much you want to bet this show is woke as shit?"

Another tried rationalizing this gross unacceptable from viewers noting: "Always great when new seasons/versions of #TheTwilightZone come along. But nothing, ever, will be able to touch the original." But nailing the coffin, a deeply upset fan of the original tweeted: "Can anyone explain why we are rebooting all of these classic shows and ruining them? Aren't writers talented enough to create their own original ideas instead of stealing something that's already been done and has name-recognition?"

'The Twilight Zone' Season 2 is available for streaming on CBS All Access.
