'The Titan Games' Season 2 Central Region Final: Matt Chan's the new Titan, Dani Speegle defends her crown
NBC's 'The Titan Games' saw a new Titan in the form of Matt Chan while Dani Speegle retained her title after being crowned Titan in the previous episode. The Central Region final was an explosive, action-packed affair that saw six competitors face off against each other in their quest to become the new Titans. From the men, it was Steven Shelby, Matt Chan, and Kaleb Redden, while the women power saw Chantae McMillan, Jaime Seeman and Claressa Shields.
Here are the best moments from the June 8 episode:
Claressa Shields bids tearful goodbye
The three competitors tackled 'Hammer Down' as their first talk. It involved striking down three pillars and the first one to climb the topmost pillar and pull the chain wins. Chantae and Claressa race across and knock down the pillars in quick succession while Jaime struggled. However, while Chantae made the task look ridiculously easy, Claressa slipped in her ascent giving Jaime the much-needed window of opportunity to make a faster climb. In the end, Jaime finished second signaling Claressa's exit.
Jaime Seeman decimates 'Resistance'
The second task was 'Resistance'. The event was all about the two athletes tied to either end of the rope and the task involves chucking heavy barrels across a barrier. Their tussle would make the competition harder. It was here that Jaime's strength was on display as she made calculated strides, held her ground and tossed the barrels across while Chantae struggled and fell multiple times in her attempt to get some footing. The cool finish meant the good doctor had an appointment with Dani Speegle.
Dani remains undefeated
The Iron Ascent slowed down Jaime again as Dani used that to her advantage. She was bursting out from the start line and vaulted Mount Olympus without breaking into a sweat. But it was a worthy competition as Jaime didn't make it easy for the reigning Titan. But in the end, it just wasn't enough.
Steven Shelby eliminated in 'Hammer Down'
The fans of the "Lil Dwayne Johnson" would be disappointed when they saw the sheriff being failing to make it to the second round. Shelby was slow off the blocks and by the time he brought the pillars down to climb and pull the chain, Matt and Kaleb were almost done with the task. While Kaleb finished first, Matt pipped Shelby to make it round two.
When Matt went Super Saiyan in 'Resistance'
Matt made this look easy. Call it firefighter training maybe, but Matt was agile and composed as he coolly launched the barrels across with a stunning display of strength and skill. It was like a quick burst of energy that sapped his strength levels but got him a chance to face Joe Thomas again.
Matt Chan's the man, or shall we say, Titan
Nothing much changed really from the last time Joe and Matt faced off against each other. Both were off to a quick start on Mount Olympus, almost neck-to-neck when Matt took advantage during the crawl as he emerged ahead. It was also clear that Matt had learned from his previous mistake. He hauled the ball and hammer and instead of pulling them by hoisting the heavy chain on his shoulders, he gripped them and pulled walking backward. Joe caught up and the duo starts hammering the block to find the relic, but Matt edges out Joe this time.
'The Titan Games' Season 2 airs on Mondays at 8 pm ET on NBC.
