LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO's highly anticipated miniseries 'The Sympathizer', with a unique blend of historical and black comedy, is set to premiere on Sunday, April 14.
Created by renowned South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook and actor and filmmaker Don McKellar, the series is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen.
Set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, the series follows the protagonist, the Captain (Hoa Xuande), as he operates secretly for the North Vietnamese Communists.
However, when the war ends, the protagonist relocates to America, where he starts a new job while simultaneously working as a spy, adding another layer of complexity to his situation.
When will 'The Sympathizer' air?
The series, co-produced by Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr, will debut on Max on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
The first episode of the series, 'Death Wish', will be directed by Park Chan-wook and written by both Chan-wook and Don McKellar.
Following the premiere episode, new episodes will be released weekly, with the season finale of the seven-episode series to premiere on May 26, 2024.
