When does ‘The Sea Beast’ release?

The animation will premiere on Netflix on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 12 am, PT/ 3 am ET. It will be Netflix's biggest animation summer release.

What is ‘The Sea Beast’ all about?

The animated film is a sea adventure. A legendary sea monster hunter's life is turned upside down when a young girl stows away on his ship and befriends the most dangerous beast of them all. The original synopsis reads, "In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes — and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he’s saddled with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history."

Who stars in 'The Sea Beast'?

The stars featured in the film are Zaris-Angel Hator as Maisie Brumble, Karl Urban as Jacob Holland, Jared Harris as Captain Crow, along with Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Sarah Sharpe, Dan Stevens as Admiral Hornagold and Kathy Burke as Gwen Batterbie.

The New Zealand actor's first Hollywood role was in the 2002 horror film 'Ghost Ship'. Young Karl was exposed to classic New Zealand cinema and developed an interest in the film industry. He then enrolled at Victoria University of Wellington in the Bachelor of Arts program but left after one year to pursue a career in acting. He can also be seen in the second and third installments of 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy (The Two Towers and The Return of the King) as Éomer. Urban played John "Reaper" Grimm in Universal Pictures'  'Doom'.



 

In 2013, Urban starred as Detective John Kennex in 'Almost Human', a TV series created by JH Wyman. In 2017, he played Skurge in 'Thor: Ragnarok'. In September 2004, Karl married his longtime partner, Natalie Wihongi, who was his makeup artist back in the days and together they have two beautiful children. Recently, he starred as William "Billy" Butcher in the Amazon Prime series 'The Boys'.

What's the latest news about ‘The Sea Beast’?

Animation director, Zach Parrish knows a thing or two about what it takes to make a phenomenal work of animation. The movie was one huge creative project that involved a lot of hard work and wit to develop. The trailer looks quite astounding and entirely real for an animation film. In a recent interview with Slashfilm, Parrish, spoke about the complexity of the film. He stated, "But I think my excitement for the film won out over that fear. Because there was also this potential for much more nuanced acting, because Chris wanted to go for a more mature tone. There was the wish fulfillment of getting to do these big epic action scenes on a boat."

Who are the creators?

The film is directed and written by Chris Williams and produced by Jed Schlanger and Williams. Williams is a 25-year Disney vet who directed “Bolt” and “Big Hero 6” and co-directed “Moana.”
