'The Rookie' Season 3: Nathan Fillion to Melissa O' Neil, meet the cast of the ABC police procedural drama

ABC's 'The Rookie' is a police procedural drama, with some comic elements that follow John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), the oldest rookie at the LAPD. Season 2 finale aired on Sunday, May 10. And now, after what seems like a long wait for fans, the show is returning for a third installment and there is a lot to look forward to. What we last remember, is that Nolan and Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) had just gathered enough concrete evidence against Detective Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau) that proved the precinct legend was in cahoots with Serj Darien. After Nolan made the wrong decision of confronting Armstrong alone, gunfire was exchanged, with the latter winding up wounded.

Armstrong revealed that he had taken measures to frame Nolan as being the other dirty cop that the late Erin Cole was in league with — and this shootout will only corroborate that scenario. Nolan rushed home and frantically searched for the evidence that Armstrong had planted somewhere. But just as he found a compartment built into the wall behind his headboard, sirens and lights arrived outside his doorstep, ready to make an arrest. Season 2 ended with John Nolan dealing with the fact that he was set up by Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau) and is facing trouble with the law. This was a cliffhanger ending that had fans hoping for a Season 3.

Nathan Fillion is a Canadian-American actor, popularly known for the roles as Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds in 'Firefly' and 'Serenity', Richard Castle in 'Castle,' Joey Buchanan in 'One Life to Live' and as Johnny Donnelly in 'Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place'. He has been playing the protagonist, John Nolan in 'The Rookie' since 2018.

Winter is known for his television roles as FBI Special Agent Craig O'Laughlin in the CBS drama series, 'The Mentalist' and Dash Gardiner in the Lifetime fantasy-drama series 'Witches of East End' and is now officer Tim Bradford in 'The Rookie'. 

Melissa O' Neil as Lucy Chen

In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to have won. As an actress, she is known for her roles as Two/Rebecca/Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction series 'Dark Matter'. She plays the role of Lucy Chen in 'The Rookie' 

The rest of the cast includes Titus Makin Jr as Jackson West, Richard T Jones Wade as Wade Grey, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper and Afton Williamson as Talia Bishop. 

'The Rookie' Season 3 premieres on Sunday, January 2 at 9 pm.
