'The Old Man': Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about FX's thriller drama starring Jeff Bridges

Jeff Bridges is all set to play a CIA man in the upcoming FX drama series, 'The Old Man'. The series is based on the bestselling Thomas Perry novel of the same name. 'The Old Man' will mark the first starring TV role in Bridges's acting career. The series centers on Dan Chase, who vanished from the CIA decades ago and has been off the grid since. Here's what we know about the thriller drama so far.

Release date

The official announcement for the series was made in July, meaning that production would go on floors possibly a few months later. We can expect the series to probably come out sometime in 2020. 

Plot

Book premise:

Dan Chase, a former army intelligence officer has been living in a small town in Vermont with his two dogs for close to 35 years. He's MIA after reportedly stealing $20 million during a mission in Libya, following which he goes on a run. All of a sudden, he finds himself being targeted by assassins and his mission is simple— stay alive, find out who wants to kill him and make a getaway. 

Series premise:

According to Variety, "'The Old Man' centers on Dan Chase (Bridges), who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past."

Cast

At the moment, we know that Jeff Bridges will play Chase. The veteran actor has been nominated for seven Academy Awards and has won one for best actor in the film, 'Crazy Heart'. His other notable works include, 'Iron Man', 'Hell or High Water', 'TRON' and 'The Big Lebowski'. 

Writer/Director

The series will be penned by Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, who will also serve as executive producers of the series. Warren Littlefield will also executive produce along with Bridges, Dan Shotz, and David Schiff.
