'The Mandalorian' Chapter 5 'The Gunslinger' treats fans with a trip to Tatooine but fails to deliver enough of Baby Yoda

Our only real complaint about the episode is that there wasn't enough of Baby Yoda, which is a huge part of why we're all watching the show. At this point, the references and easter eggs are more secondary (yet still satisfying) treats

'The Mandalorian' has given us a number of fun nods to the greater world of 'Star Wars' and in Chapter 5 'The Gunslinger' the show returned to a classic location from 'Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope', the very first movie of the franchise. That's right, Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda are headed to Mos Eisley.

Famously described by Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy", Mos Eisley is the infamous spaceport of Tatooine where the Jedi Master took Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to find a pilot.

Based on the episode, the bustling den of smugglers and thieves hasn't changed all that much after the fall of the Empire. There's still plenty of treachery and barbarism around though the bars are a little less crowded.

The stormtrooper heads mounted on spikes was a gruesome but effective touch that implies the pirates, bounty hunters, and other varieties of villains who populate the town took the first opportunity to kill the local garrison. Honestly, what else would you expect from Mos Eisley?

So why would Mando even bring the child here? Well, unfortunately, he was forced to touch down on Tatooine for repairs after getting into a shootout in space with another bounty hunter who was trying to steal his catchphrase (and Baby Yoda).

We get some references to the Hutts and a quick conversation with some Tusken raiders as well as an inevitable double-cross, just to make sure we're clear that you can't trust anyone who offers you a job in this town. Our only real complaint is that there wasn't enough of Baby Yoda, who is a huge part of why we're all watching the show. The references and easter eggs are more secondary (yet still satisfying) treats at this point.

Baby Yoda will return in 'The Mandalorian' Chapter 6, which will be arriving on Disney+ on December 13.
