MAJOR spoiler alert for 'Apocalypse? Now?!' - Episode 5 of Season 5 of 'The Magicians'

'The Magicians' has a lot of apocalypses and in all their time trying to save the world, our protagonists are overdue for a severe misstep - but no one could have predicted how big a misstep they would manage. Fans have had a week to process the fact that the team needs to move the moon, but in this episode, plans go awry at exactly the wrong time and now...the moon is broken.

With this special two-hour episode, the fans have barely had time to react before the next episode begins, but it's safe to say that the event has had a significant impact - though hopefully one that can be fixed before the broken moon can have its own significant impact on the Earth.

"That’s one small mistake for Man, one giant planetary disaster for mankind," wrote one fan, on Twitter. With a cliffhanger that big, fans are grateful that the show didn't make them wait a whole week before revealing what happens next. "Now you understand why there needed to be two episodes tonight!" notes this tweet.

"WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!!!! #theMagicians always coming through with the great twists!!" writes one fan, in a reaction that perfectly captures both the shock and awe of the biggest moment of the season so far. There are always upsides, though, as this one tweet notes: "Well on the bright side there’s plenty of moon rocks now...."  though how useful they would be now is very much in question. It's an extra amusing observation, though, considering that the episode spent much of its time trying to figure out how to obtain but a single moon rock in the first place.

The breaking of the moon does bring up some serious questions, though: "Shouldn’t a broken moon also severely f*** with circumstances as established about a half hour ago?" asks one viewer. It's an important question, as this season has been highlighting the importance of circumstances in the application of magic.

One user encapsulated the experience of watching 'The Magicians' in one succinct tweet: "This show is literally an anxiety attack wrapped up in magic and sex"

Episode 6 of 'The Magicians' airs on February 13 and the next episode airs February 19, on Syfy.
