'The Magicians' Season 5 Episode 11 promos show Ember is alive and just as annoying

Even with so few episodes to go (just three more, in case anyone is counting) 'The Magicians' is consistently putting shock twists in every episode. In the trailer for 'Be the Hyman', Episode 11 of Season 5, we see Fen, Eliot, Margo and Josh (who is a little underdressed) burst into a throne room to find Ember!

How is this even possible? Of course, given the preponderance of time magic this season, maybe the gang found a pocket of isolated time and space where Ember is alive.

Since Ember was one of the creators of Fillory, he will probably have the most knowledge about how to sever the conduit magic connection between Fillory's trees and Rupert "Sebastian" Chatwin (Sean Maguire) aka the Dark King.

The Dark King is basically immortal and un-killable because he has tied himself to the energy of Fillory's tree network, juicing up whenever he is low of energy or springing back to life each time he is assassinated.

Unless the gang is okay with the whole of Fillory being destroyed to defeat him, the only option is to unhook him from the Fillory tree juice. Ember's solution seems to involve lots of pickles if this promotional picture is anything to go by.

Sera Gamble had teased the series finale by saying that Josh (Trevor Einhorn) would be making "his greatest sandwich yet". Maybe is this episode, he is gathering one of the ingredients of the said sandwich?

We also see the return of the chauvinistic Pigman aka Sir Effingham (also played by Sean Maguire) who points to Julia's growing belly and says: "You are carrying a bastard", to which Julia Wicker (Stella Maeve) quips, "Definitely, talking to one".

We also see Kady Orloff-Diaz and Alice Quinn in the hospital with someone who is heavily plastered — this someone could be Penny Adiyodi (Arjun Gupta). Whoever it is, we are curious about what happened to put him in that state.

We also see a new, improved Marina, which is a surprise since we haven't seen her since her interference caused the gang to break the moon. But she seems to be teaming up with Kady and Alice in the promotional photos.

And last but not the least, we also have a cute sneak peek scene of Margo and Josh making up. Josh tells Margo that since she had gone "almost insane" in her effort to get him back to Earth from the Underworld, their situation warranted a "clean slate".

By the end of their chat, they are already talking about having a werewolf litter (far in the future) but both seem to acknowledge that they are thinking long term here.

For fans, who have seen the couple being distant to each other in the last few episodes, seeing them lovey-dovey again is a relief. If only the imminent Apocalypse could be resolved so easily.

'The Magicians' airs on Wednesdays 10/9c on SYFY.
